This is related to my post from yesterday, as many said she wasn't getting enough fluids because she basically only wants something to drink with a meal or snack...I tried giving more fluids but I noticed still when she went pee-pee it still didn't seem like she was urinating enough...so basically, my ? is should she urinate like half a cup or a cup full? (Not really sure what measurement go by)? Thanks in advance!

*Adansmom- That is a really rude answer..NO I am NOT planning too, however, If you would have read the ? I stated I didn't know how to specify the amount...I thought this was a site for MOMS to be helpful to other MOMS? I plan to call her PEDIATRICIAN monday, however, today is SATURDAY and it's a NON-threatening ? that can be answered Monday, so until then, I thought I might ask the USAL helpful Moms on mamapedia. WOW.

Bug- there is no need to get rude either- My daughter has never drank much water, not saying she doesnt drink it at ALL, just not alot...and there has never been an issue....wow, dont think I will be using this site much more...thanks anyway.

What can I do next?

If you are worried, ask her pediatrician :) I think of how much I pee. First thing in the morning is a lot, but throughout the day it's probably 1/4 of that a few times a day. Also how frequent she is going will dictate the amount she pees. She is a lot smaller than an adult though so she won't pee near as much as any of us.
The body will use the nutrients, etc from what she drinks and expel the rest. Maybe her body needs all the nutrients and water, it won't go straight through and be a large amount of pee if it does.

Don't be offended babe, sometimes questions will strike someone's buttons or maybe they didn't mean to be rude and just come across that way. I don't drink much water either, I will when I have to but I don't do it much but my pee color says I'm good lol.

Just to be practical...you aren't going to pee the same "measurement" as you intake, as your body does use some of that fluid and other things are made into waste. I don't think there's a "normal" amount anyone should pee...I'd be more concerned with the frequency and quality of it...light colored, fairly odorless, and every few hours.

Also, drinking with meals and snacks seems alright to me...my six year old only drinks with meals and snacks, unless she's been playing outside, and then she has extra water. She also takes a water bottle to bed with her.

I think the amount is not as important, as what it looks like. Like others stated on your first question, it should be more clear then yellow, and not cloudy at all. If it is yellowish and cloudy, she is not getting enough pure water to dilute her urine. It's possible the pediatrician could send home sterile cups, to see how much she is urinating. My sister's pediatrician did that, when her daughter was getting dehydrated. Until you get into the pediatrician, you might just make a note of what her urine looks like each time. If her pediatrician wants to know how much, they will give you a way. I guarantee you they will tell you to make your daughter drink water. Since the human body requires it to function properly. But, it seems you didn't want to hear that last time. So...I won't go into rehashing that.

I think it just depends on how often she's going. I didn't read your other post, but I have an almost 4 y/o and sometimes it's just a little tinkle and other times it's a big giant pee! It really is more about how much she's drinking in conjuction with how often she's going. If it's more clear than yellow then that's good, it means she's getting a good amount of water.

The answer to your question is: It varies. Do you always urinate the same amount? Doubtful.

Asking if you were going to measure your daughter's output is NOT rude. If it is an issue, the doctor will give you something they call a "hat" that you set in your toilet to catch urine output. It has measurement lines and you record the amounts.

I understand if you have genuine concern for your daughter's health, but you may revisit your previous post and this one and find you coming across pretty ungraciously. Perhaps English is not your first language? Perhaps you are overwhelmed with concern for your daughter? Perhaps you are just rude? Whichever, if you want to continue to use this site for the wonderful source of information and support that it is, you may want to revise your methods a little bit.

if you're still this worried i think you should schedule a dr's appointment, or call the nurse's line and ask their advice. i've never measured lol. are you planning to? i think at this point it's past our "advice". you seem to really be seeking concrete medical advice. good luck. maybe try googling some medical websites and seeing what they say?

Hey mama,
As I answered yesterday, my daughter pees the same amount and I have never once thought something was wrong. I dring diet coke allday so yes, I pee more. Madi doesn't. Big deal. I've never really measured but she will hop on there 4-5 times a day. Im sure its not a cup everytime. She doesn't carry a cup around with her either. I would rather her eat food. As far as water goes my daughter never drinks a bottle of water and regardless what I've seen other moms write, she doesnr like water and guess whatl neither do I and I don't drink it either! We are both still alive and kicking! My daughter drinks 100% pure apple juice everyday. No water (gasp). You are doing nothing wrong and in comparison my 4 yr old pees just as much as yours. If it worries you ask your pedi next time your in! Your doing just fine!

My guy is 28 months, drinks at least 16 oz of water a day, 16 oz of milk, 6 to 8 oz of juice and really doesn't pee much so I asked his doctor. She said amounts of urine/pee aren't nearly as important as the color of it. If it is clear to light yellow it is fine, but if it was ever darker or smell I should then call.

I think the reason moms are making comments about water intake is because it plays a vital role in how the body functions, it regulates body temperature by allowing it to sweat, it carries waste away in the urine, and it moves nutrients and other substance throughout the body. Active little ones require a lot of water to replace the fluids they lose, especially during warm weather, I see it with my guy. Since their body weight is much less than that of adults, they can become dehydrated easily. Good hydration helps children to maintain a healthy weight, improves concentration levels and reduces the risk of chronic disease as well as constipation and UTI's. Sure a person can not like water and never drink it, it's just better if they do from a health perspective.

And while I realize you didn't ask, I am only trying to be informative when I say: Our ped said a good rule of thumb is to divide your child's weight by 2 and give them that many ounces of water per day. Some of the water can come from soups, yogurt, milk and juice, which has excess sugar and empty calories and should be diluted 1/2 water, 1/2 juice. For kids who don't like water you can squeeze a fresh lemon or orange into it and add a pinch of sugar, or give coconut water which has lots of nutrients. I personally like lemon squeezed in my water because it brings food's flavors out, so ask for it in restaurants instead of other drinks (and save money ; )

Know none of this was meant to offend you or criticize you and I hope you don't take it that way, just trying to be helpful ✿

It depends upon how much she drinks and how often she goes.
If she doesn't drink a lot there won't be much no matter when she goes (that's not really good for her kidneys).
If she drinks a lot, there will be more unless she goes frequently and doesn't allow her bladder to fill up much - then it won't seem like much at all.
Did she get use to fluid restrictions during potty training?
A potty chair will show you how much and take the guessing out.
Increase what she drinks (after a meal so she won't fill up on drink) and in between meals.
