When Do You Clean?

I like to do the bulk of my cleaning right after I put my DD to bed. Typically, I put her down, throw a load of laundry in the wash, load the dishwasher (gets unloaded in the morning) then wipe counters and tables, sweep, and spot mop the house (we have hard floors throughout.) If I'm feeling ambitious, I might pick another chore that needs done too. Maybe. Sometimes...

My husband thinks I'm nuts for doing chores so late (of course, he works nights so he isn't here anyway.) Lol. I prefer it this way, because then I don't have a 3yo awake to mess it back up (or "help" me take twice as long doing them... She gets to do plenty of 'chores' during the day anyway. Lol.) plus, by the time I am done she is out cold which means I can watch a show or two (or do homework when I have classes) without potty or drink breaks. :) score!

So, when do you do the bulk of your cleaning?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I guess it helps for me that I am naturally a night owl. No matter what time I go to bed, I never have much energy until the afternoon, but I really hit my stride at night.

:/
like you, i do the dishes and counters at night after dinner has been cleared, because flylady has got me addicted to clean sinks and counters in the morning.
but other than that, night is 'my' time. which usually involves chopped or dr who, if i'm not in the pool.
cleaning.

When I'm working I seem to clean All weekend long. Sigh.
I am more of a morning cleaner. Then I can relax in my clean house in the afternoons.

I do it randomly all day every day in bits. Sometimes I just can't deal with it for a couple of days so it gets out of control. I have three kids and they do help a lot more now at 7, 5 and 4. I can actually tell them to pick up rooms and they will. But as for things I need to do....the only thing I do at night is load the dishwasher and wipe down counter tops so I can attack breakfast next day. I have no energy after dinner, so I am very impressed with how much late night cleaning you do!!!

I clean when I can no longer put it off. It's normally during nap time, though. At night, I just want to chill out for a bit before going to bed myself. The kitchen gets cleaned after dinner by whichever spouse is not bathing and putting the little one to bed.

I have 2 kids that are now 6 and 10.
Ever since they were born, I just clean whenever. Whether they were awake or not.
Because I could.
And, meanwhile, my kids just learned the daily routines of the house and about my routines and what I do, and that they have routines too.
So now at their ages, they KNOW that I have my daily routines/cleaning and that is just the way it is. And then at those times they are very independent too and entertain themselves and/or do their chores too and HELP. It is just daily life.
I don't do chores/house cleaning at night after they are in bed.

Sure, kids are kids and things are never spotless or looks like a museum. But the house is clean, because I clean and do housework everyday.
And the kids also put things away.

To me, a child needs to learn, that things go on in the house. That Mommy has housework or whatever, too. Not just nothing all day. And that they too, are independent.
One day, I kept a tally of everything I did in the morning, and by 11:30am, I had a list of like 32 things that I did that morning. Which were usual things that I normally do all the time, whether or not the kids are in my midst or not.
It just is.
Right now, my kids are doing their chores, I told them I have to do computer things, and scheduling things for next week, and I am also doing laundry, just did the dishes, and the kids are fine.
Because, these are the normal running of the house.
I don't want my kids to think, that Mommy only does things after they are in bed. They need to learn, that even if they are home or awake, that things needs to get done. AND there is also their things to do too, and we also incorporate outings and play dates and whatnot, with them.

I usually do most of my cleaning after lunch. I do a major cleaning about once a week where I will clean all the bathrooms, dust, mop, and vaccume. We also have white cabnets in the kitchen so I will wipe those down really good about once a month. For me, it's just easier to do everything after lunch. In the morning we are busy with breakfast, showers and going anywhere if we need to. Once we are done with all of that and home, then it's just easier to clean after lunch so the house is clean when my husband gets home from work and then at night I can just relax with him.

I try to do at least 1 round of dishes every night or every other night (We don't have a dishwasher so it's just me - Hubby cooks, I do dishes). Then I have a once a week "cleaning day" where I clean everything else. During that time, kiddo is baby-gated in the hallway/his bedroom area and plays with toys and stuff in there.

Whenever I can. When my kids were littler I would do bigger projects that involved cleaners that they might get into until nap time.
I don't stay up after my kids do and my time in the morning I might get before they wake up is my quiet time or time spend with my husband. That doesn't happen all the time either.
I find ways to let them help. I give them the washcloths to fold, of course they fold one or 2 for my whole pile but it keeps them out of the way. They get to put the socks I folded into the drawer, sure they get brought to the drawer one at a time and I often grab the rest. But it all gets done. Some days they'd just play in the empty clothes basket while I did everything else.
I gave them a broom and dustpan of their own at a really early age.
Cleaning is an endless battle. I just hack at it as I can.

I clean as I go. My kitchen is already cleaned up after I make my lunch but before I eat it. Same with dinner. When I get up, I make my bed. After I shower, I clean walls and floor. I clean the counter after I brush my teeth. Since I do it practically daily it doesn't take more than a few minutes. I dust and wash sheets on Monday and I am forever cleaning my kitchen floor.
I always make sure my downstairs is cleaned up before I go to bed since I hate coming down to a mess.
My house does tend to be cleaner and more tidy during the school year when my kids are not home as much. I don't have a lot of clutter and everything has a place in my home so it is very easy to maintain.

I used to do it during his nap but since he doesn't take one anymore, I:
-try to get it done first thing in the morning before he awakes
-then when he gets up I can get a little more done since he's still sleepy
and wants to relax
-then he's off & running for the day which means he's very active & wants
to engage so I throw in laundry & dishes while we get active or go for a
walk
-clean bathrooms quickly
-dishwasher gets loaded after dinner & ran first thing in the morning
-I throw laundry in first thing in the morning
-So basically first thing in a.m.
-I'll spot clean here & there throughout the day
-major overhaul (bathrooms, floors, vacuuming on the weekends)

I always prefer to do housework first thing in the morning, when I still have lots of energy and before I have showered. Mostly I do bits and pieces throughout the day. Put a load in the washer, go out, come home and move it to the dryer, go out again, come home and fold...

Right now I do it whenever I can. My youngest starts preschool in September so I'm hoping I'm ambitious enough to do the deep cleaning of the bathroom and living room on Tuesday afternoons and then the kitchen and bedrooms on Thursday afternoons.

I do a general pick up every day, kitchen is cleaned every day (dishes ran, pots cleaned, etc), and bathrooms 2x per week. I have someone come in to clean every other Friday since my husband and I both work M-F full time. Every thursday night my son and I go around the house and put away anything that has built up in piles over the week and do all the laundry. This system has worked well now for the past couple of years. My son has also learned (he is now 7) that toys need to get put away and the house in general needs to be picked up.

I do a little after each meal and all throughout the day....but I do wash the floors on Sundays and Thursday---once by hand, the other with a steam mop--when the kids are at the pool with daddy or when they are having videos. I do other deep cleaning projects when they are watching TV and napping. But I usually spend 30-45 minutes after each meal doing chores, laundry, picking up, etc. I like to keep on top of it.
