I stopped breast feeding my son about a month ago. I understand that every woman is different but curious as to when I might start my menstral cycle again?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your responses. I actually started my cycle the day after I posted my request.

With my first baby, I started my period at 6 months. With my second, I started at 11 months. I breastfed both kids until 15 months with about the same frequency. Enjoy being period-less for a little longer.

2-3 months. If you weren't using birth control, it could be a while. :-) Breast feeding does not prevent ovulation.

Take good care!!!

I weaned my first son at 7 months and didn't get a period until he turned 11 months. It won't take too long, but enjoy not having it:-)

K., it took me 3 months to re-start my mentrual cycle after I stopped breastfeeding. I did spot after a few months for a day or two, but it was three months before I had a normal cycle.

any time

congratulations on being one of the lucky ones who actually doesn't ovulate while breastfeeding ... I started ovulating around 8 months each time, and even with the baby I was still exclusively breastfeeding (long story, but we went 9 months before other food that time).

I finally found an OB/gyn I liked (ironically post-all-my-births, but then I didn't want a medical birth, just some medical questions answered); he told me not only that "most women" don't ovulate as long as they are still breastfeeding (even just breastfeeding a little bit--ooooo, was I mad ;) ), but that the doctors can in fact *tell* which women will ovulate while breastfeeding and which won't. Being at the time of the appointment completely unprepared for this information (plus having just been left, sigh, so not expecting to have sex--and therefore potential babies--anytime soon), I didn't follow up to ask HOW they could tell. But perhaps an OBgyn who knows the answer, could help you feel comfortable with the time it is taking your ovaries to cycle back 'on' :). I agree with most of the folks here ... from what I've heard, sometimes it just takes a while. (MAN, do I wish that had been the case for me ;)!!!!!)

I expect it must be stressful, since you posted ... remember that even not-post-breastfeeding, we women can be prone to irregularity, and I would think any mom qualifies as occasionally stressed enough to see irregularity ... God bless :).

I been wondering the same thing! I stopped breasfeeding in early October. There was nothing during my first cycle, and a day or two of spotting during the second cycle (last month). Maybe this third month with be the charm!
