Whats IBS?

I have it, along with fibromyalgia. It's no fun and the two worst symptoms I experience are the alternating diarrhea and constipation.

My sister has diverticulitis, which is also an auto-immune disorder like fibromyalgia, and experiences pain much like you describe. Here's some info to check out:

I would suggest going to the ER the next time you experience the pain, as sometimes things are more obvious when they're happening, (this is how my sister's diverticulitis was diagnosed) and asking to see a gastroenterologist, a physician who specializes in treating the digestive system.

I too have IBS. Now I know symptoms can range in severity but mine are "rolling" cramping sensation in my low abdomen. The cramps can get really severe if I am constipated. Once I am able to clear the constipation (usually with several bouts of diarhea) then they go away. I will get flushed and sweaty but yours sounds much different. I agree with the other posters that you should head to the ER while having the pain and then can get real time exam when in this type of pain.

I agree that you should go to the ER next time it happens. Let them examine you while you're having the pain. It will be difficult for you (climbing into the car, allowing MD's to palpate your abdomen while you're in pain) but it might be easier for them to make a diagnosis if they see you when you're symptoms are present.

So sorry you're experiencing this pain. A family friend had mystery symptoms such as yours and discovered later that there was something left inside them after a previous surgery. I know it's an extremely, extremely remote possibility, but have you been x-rayed for the presence of a surgical instrument, packing material, dissolving sutures that didn't dissolve, etc.? My only other suggestion would be starting with a new GI doctor. Doesn't sound like you're getting the answers you need from your current doc. It sounds like your pain is related to H. pylori, and not to IBS. IBS is always combined with diarrhea and/or constipation, or both. I read that H. pylori has recently become more drug resistant, and that doctors now use a triple or quadruple therapy to try to get rid of it. H. pylori can cause damage, such as ulcers or stomach cancer if they can't get rid of it, as it causes excess acid in the stomach. Take some Zantac, and go back to your doctor until it is gone.
