What You Didn't Pass Down

I have two girls, three years apart so when my 2nd one was born I passed down a lot of stuff from my older one. Crib, carseat, stroller, tons of clothes, blankets, toys etc. But there are a few items I didn't pass down. I didn't pass down my oldest's first Easter dress, first baby blanket (albeit it had her name embroidered on it), first pair of shoes, etc. While doing some cleaning out of closets I found all of these things and now I'm at a loss as to what to do with them. We are not planning on more children and I really just can't see handing them off to someone else. Is there anything that you didn't pass down between your children and why didn't you pass it down? What did you do with it?

What can I do next?

I put that stuff in a shadow box (affixed to the back with Zots) and hung it on the wall in their room.

I saved some preemie clothes to show my daughter just how small she was. I also saved the clothes my girls came home in. I'll give it to them someday and they can do what they want with them.

I have a keep sake box for when my daughter grows up. I kept her favorite toy, first Christmas dress and a few other items. I had a miscarriage with my second child and cannot have any more so these items will be hers alone. Everything else I gave to my niece or to goodwill.

I have two big rubbermaid boxes with stuff that I am emotionally attached to. I will keep it and offer it to my DD when she has her own children.
I have a good friend whose mom did this and she was SO excited to wrap her own child in her old baby blankets and layette.

If you are not attached to it or think your child would not appreciate the items later (mine is very exited about keeping her baby stuff for her own babies) you could always donate it. Many people do not care if their blanket has a different name on it, as long as it keeps their kid warm.

Good luck.

I have two cedar chests from the grandmas - no-one else wanted them. One has the kids' (they are now 13 &16) special things that I've saved - baby outfit owrn home from the hospital, special outfits, special toys, blankets made by a special someone. I figure when they have their own babies they can decide whether or not they want to use them for their kids in some way. The other cedar chest is in our bedroom and we use it to store opposite season clothes. You have to save their first shoes - so when they're teens and are wearing enormous shoes you can get a good chuckle, etc.

Saved them in rubbermaid/keepsake status, to give them when they are older/grown or have kids of their own.

Special blankets (all made by my mom--not store bought stuff), first shoes, favorite outfit or coming home from the hospital outfit, etc.
My daughter will have a small dress that I wore myself as an infant, that my mom made. She wore it at a few months old and I took her picture in it. She has that packed up in the keepsakes stuff. :)

No younger siblings, but my SIL's daughter is 2 years younger than mine, so she got the bulk of the baby stuff - crib bedding, bouncy seat, baby gym. I did hold on to a bunch of the onsies because my plan is to eventually make a memory quilt out of them. I also have hand-knit blanket that my aunt made. After that she has gotten all the outgrown clothes, except for DD's first pair of shoes, and then these cute little rockin' cowgirl boots that were DD's when she was 3. She loved those boots and they fit her personality so well that I am loathe to part with them!

I am saving his favorite blanket.

I have a few custom-made tee shirts w/special iron-on sayings that several friends made for my child so I'm keeping those.

I only have the one, but there are some special things, her baptismal gown, first christmas dress, etc, that I've got saved in a box in my closet to give her when she has a baby.

The diaper genie & I think I burned it, it smelled so bad!?!?!

Seriously, I had a boy and a girl. The only thing I kept was the outfit they wore home from the hospital. The rest I passed into others.

I have all boys, so maybe I'd feel differently with boys, but I only kept their baby blankets and a special stufffed animal for each one. My oldest is 5, and he recently decided to give up his baby blanket. He very sweetly wanted to give it to his baby brother, but I packed it away in case he ever wants it for his own baby.
