i'm with you. the vinegar and newspaper thing has never worked for me. i don't understand how anyone cleans with newspaper. for me it leaves ink smears and fibers everywhere.
my husband says they use something called 'invisible glass' at work, but i haven't tried it yet.
i don't have glass tables any more, so can't recommend this personally. maybe try it in a small section. but i work at an artisan gift shop, and one of our artists who works in stained glass showed me how to polish her pieces, and i was blown away. it's so counter-intuitive, but it works brilliantly.
and it's wax. apparently most furniture polishes don't actually have wax in them any more, but this gal recommends orange glo, which is cheap and easy to find, and works. i spray the glass, let it sit for a while (the longer the better, but at the very least several minutes. go do your yoga workout, or get dinner started, or move the laundry through, or make all the beds, or snuggle into your favorite chair and indulge in two chapters of your current book) and then go back and rub and rub and rub.
you will be amazed at how sparkling and streak-free your glass looks.
assuming it works on glass tables the same way, that is. can't think why it wouldn't.
she has me use an actual cloth, not newspaper or paper towels. a chamois would eliminate the potential for any lint.
if you try this, please let me know if it works well!
if it doesn't, it should clean up just fine with vinegar. which won't solve your original problem, of course. but it's worth a shot!
