I have an infant and I currently work 2 days/week. I only need a nanny for 1 day per week for about 10 hours. I have hired a nanny, but wasn't sure as to what I should offer her in reference to salary, If she should get PTO, holiday or sick time, etc? Could you please offer any suggestions.

What can I do next?

I would say around $12-$13/hour. I would only pay her if it's a day that she usually works and you have the day off. So it's the same rate every week. If she needs a day off that would be unpaid. It's only part-time so I wouldn't think she needs any PTO.

Since you only need one day a week, you might want to consider a home daycare for your daughter instead of a nanny. It will be a lot more cost effective for you and the right home daycare can give your six month old plenty of attention, and as she grows, she will get some interaction with other children. I have a home daycare, so I know how nervous new mom's can be leaving their precious infants in a new place. Visit a few and see if it's for you. Go with your gut instincts--you'll know if it's right. Good luck and send me a note if you have any questions. :)

I have the same situation. Our nannies have gotten between 12 and 13 dollars/hour. The way I work it is they don't get holiday or sick time but if we go on vacation or Idon't need them I do pay them for that day.

My friend in Plainfield area earns about $16 hr. she has training in special needs.

I did some research last year in the western suburbs, going rate was about $14.

I would think you wouldn't need to pay for time off unless they work for you 3 days a week or more. Just my opinion.

Good luck!
