My husband and I both work full-time, and we were looking for a daycare in our area. My friend is a stay at home Mom with a child close to the same age and offered to watch our child which I am thrilled about! We just don't know what a good price to offer her would be. We would like it to be cheaper than the average daycare, but still be a fair offer to her. Thanks for your responses!! :)
Since she is not licensed and does not require continuing education I would pay her around $35.00 a day. Is she certified in CPR and First Aid? I run a family daycare and I charge more but I am licensed, CPR/First Aid certified, my education is Early Childcare, and I have been in childcare for over 20 years.
We paid $225 a week for a day care center until my daughter turned 2. I think $200 a week for full time care is more than appropriate. That is only $40 a day for full time care. So if your child is there 8 hours (which most are) that breaks down to only $8 an hour for care. Not bad for an infant.
Based on your area I would say $180/week would be fair. We are in Algonquin and charge $210/week for our home daycare. Make sure you also discuss if holidays, sick days, and vacations are paid for so there is no hard feelings!
I use to watch my friends kids and only charged her $25/day but that was about 5 years ago, and they were older. I dont think a 3 month old is as much work as a 1 year old. I would do $30/day if its a friend.
I think you need to consider how many children the in-home provider is caring for. I am considering taking in an infant. I stay a home with my preschooler and I would be insulted if someone wanted me to watch their precious baby for $3.50-$5/hour. Are you people kidding me? You really need to consider what kind of care and individual attention your baby is going to receive. I wouldn't even consider it for less than $500/week.

I run an in home daycare and the going rate is $35 a day.
I charge 200.00 per week for infants in my home daycare.
This breaks down to between $4 and $5 dollars an hour for
care. Not a bad price, and seems to be a reasonable charge
for my area.
It may be a bit lower there...I am currently in Rolling Meadows and use to watch a baby at $225 per week. Older kids I charged $200 per week.
