My family just moved my grandma into a nursing home this past summer. She is still able to do everything herself, gets around ok and still has a very sharp mind . She was the one that asked to go. But with limited space in her room in the home, I am stumped what to get her for a Xmas present. If anyone's got ideas, I sure could use some!!!

What can I do next?

We give the Great Grandparents a photo book or dvd of family movies from the year. Neither take up much space, and the family appreciates having reminders of their loved ones.

Just about everyone has a photo book application to help you assemble one. The DVD is easy to make using software that comes with a Mac.

Restaurant gift cards are always nice then she would not have to have cash when she would like to go out with someone. Also fruit baskets work well as she would have something to snack on, Box of chocolates, If diabetic get the sugar free ones. Gift cards for department stores that she may go out on van rides with other seniors if she is able to go on outings, Good luck

Spend time with her, with your kids. If she is able to leave the nursing home, go pick up her for a nice dinner, with your whole family, then drive by some houses with pretty Christmas light displays. She would love it! If she can't leave, a family picture in a nice frame and a hand written note from each of your kids telling her what she means to them.

If you can find a relatively cheap one, those digital frames work very well - so she can have as many pictures as you/she want -without having to take up the space of many picture frames. You can email other siblings, etc. to get other pictures of grandchildren, or you can just put pictures of your family in it.

Good luck!

When Grandma Grace went into a nursing home, her favorite gift was an adjustable table lamp (adjustable at base, midway up, and at top) with really good bulbs (the kind that make things "brighter.") She said that the lighting in her room by her bed was too poor for reading and crafting while she was laying in bed.

Good luck!

What about like a nice warm quilt that she could cover up with. You could even personalize it.

For my husband's grandma, who is in her 90's, we have gotten her a calendar with pictures of her grand- and great-grandkids, a photo book, a shawl, and a super soft fleece blanket.
Her favorite is a rice heating pad: You make kind of a small pillow-shaped bag out of flannel, fill it with rice, and sew up the opening. You can then put it in the microwave for 1 minute and use it to warm your hands, feet, back, or just hold it in your lap or put it in your bed to warm it up before you get in. It can be reused as many times as you want.

Hi Cheri! Have you seen those tied fleece blankets? That would be something that your kids could help you make for Grandma. You can get the pattern at any fabric store. My mom made one for me years ago and it's still my favorite blanket on a cold day.
Merry Christmas!

We did a snapfish calendar, personalized with pictures of all the great-grandkids. It was a huge hit.

Pictures of family, telephone, T.V., cookies for the nursing home, CD, radio.

We've done bird feeders for outside my MIL's window in the nursing home, stained glass for the window in her room, I'm getting my MIL Packer Crocks for Christmas. She's a huge Packer fan.

The list can go on.
