I Have A 21 Month old daughter, right now I'm working 5 days a week 8am-5pm. I Usually Get Home around 6;00pm or so. I try to tell my mom to cook for my daughter, rice macaroni meat chicken and so on. (She Never Does) So everyday I do a check up and its always the same thing she eats- Chicken nuggets for lunch and a bannana for breakfast, sometimes its eggs and potato, broccoli or raviolis. As you can see cooking is rarley an option for my mother, what can I buy that can be easy but also nutritous???

What can I do next?

One of the things that my husband and I do is cook on Sunday. We cook everything for the week on Sunday. Usually it's a couple different things in large quantity. A big meatloaf. Meatballs and sauce and cook pasta as needed. Marinated chicken breast. We both work full time and my son eats dinner at 6:00 and I don't usually get home until 5:30 or so. This way all we have to do is heat it up, cook a rice or pasta and veggie, and I'm not rushing around after work to get everyone fed.

Maybe you can make homecooked meals for the week and then pack them in little tupperwares for you mom to just nook.

I do that for me and my son b/c of course he doesn't eat everything I eat.

Make brown rice, roasted chicken (you can dice the breast for her), ground turkey in spaghetti sauce with whole grain pasta, keep a bag or two of frozen veggies in your mom's freezer, make little lean beef cheeseburger patties your mom can just heat up and throw on a little party roll (its fun), baked mac & cheese with whole grain elbows and low-fat cheddar, baked french fries (sweet potato baked fries if your daughter is into that).

I usually take a Sunday afternoon to cook 3 meals for the week. Let your daughter help cook, too! She'll feel proud all week eating the food she helped make.

Have fun! My son loves helping me make stuffed shells because I let him shake in all the spice ingredients in the cheese mixture.

hello christina m.

for starters my son is a picky eater so what i do is i find out all the things that he likes and i will cook something that he likes and make enough of it to freeze so he can have it for a couple of days. and when he is finish or tired of eating that over and over then i move on to the next thing that he likes. so what u can do is prepare food for her when you are off and freeze it and give it to yourt mother so that way all she has to do ios just heat it up for her.

Hi! I have a 2 1/2 yr old and when she was little I used to babysit twins that are 6 months older than her. When I first started to make my job easier their mother would make a daily list of what to feed them and how to prepare it. I'm sure it was a lot of work for her but it helped and the kids ate different meals every day. Sometimes she'd make a meatloaf the night before, and they would eat that. Frozen veggies, my daughter loves the canned veggies though, and its easy. SHe would have cut up friut in large bags in frigde for them. Also large bags of cooked noodles. My daughter loved thouse gerber graduate meals, not sure if you've tried them. For lunches my daughter and the other kids loved lunch meats, and cheese sticks. Crackers with peanut butter. Bagel bites are easy, just put them in toaster or microwave. (a little tough to chew if they are put in microwave though). Thats all I can think of right now. I hope that helps.

I have school on a couple of days of the week and when I do, my daughter's grandpa picks her up and either he or my great aunt watch her after school until I get home. Like your mother, my father in law and my aunt are not ones to cook and usually they let her have anything she will eat that is easy for them which has in the past meant alot of junk. I found that if I make a little extra when I cook after I get home I can save it in microwavable containers for the nest day while I am gone. This way I can just give what I have to grandpa or Aunt Marge asnd they can pop it in the microwave for a minute or two when she is ready to eat. Makes it easier on them and I know that she is getting what I want her to eat. Casseroles reheat really easily and are easy easy ways to sneak in all kinds of veggies.

Another option - Sandwiches are easy and can be made with lots of healthy ingredients, you can have them on bread, in a pita, or flat bread as a wrap. You can use hummus, meats, all kinds of veggies, even slices of fruit. My daughter loves it when I spread a little cream cheese on a tortilla cover it in spinach, turkey, tomatoes, a little cheese, roll it up and then cut it into little pinwheels. Tuna salad works really well this way too and even peanut butter and jelly.

I also make little baggies of cut up fruit and veggies and then add a little cup of something to dip them in like peanut or almond butter, ranch dressing, hummus,(you can get really small plastic containers at the grocery store) works good for snacks or to add more nutritional value to a lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Try cooking her meals ahead of time and giving them to your mom to heat up in the microwave. This way you know that she is getting a variety of foods and not the same thing everyday. If you cook dinner for yourself after getting home, put some aside for her dinner for the next day. You can pack a lunch and a breakfast too. Pancakes can be made ahead of time and reheated. Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, veggies and dip, whatever she lickes for lunch. Just label them and give directions as to how long to heat, etc. Good Luck

I've been feeding my daughter the Gerber, Beechnut, and Chefboyardee. They all have a nice size portion, and they're all pretty nutritious. And Chefboyardee does have the Chicken, Rice, and Veggies meal, mac and cheese meal...as well as others. They are those little microwaveable cups, and are found in the isle with the other products, NOT in with baby food. These cups are a little larger than the graduates cups (1.5 oz difference). They also have the Hormel microwavable kids cups (makers of Dinty Moore Stews). They have a pretty good selection too. http://www.hormel.com/bears/pages/meals.html That is the link to the list of their kids selection. My daughter only going to be 1 in a couple of weeks, she loves these little meals, and sometimes she eats a full cup, but most of the time she only eats 1/2-2/3's of these cups. If you don't think they are big enough meals, you can always have your mother make 2 of them and put them together in a bowl for a larger meal. I hope you like the selection you can get, and that your daughter enjoys these as much as mine does!

Why don't you prepare the meals you want your daughter to eat the night before or on the weekend and then just have your mom re-heat them for your daughter. It's worth a shot if you have the time :-)

What about if you cook and then freeze the meals in tupperware containers that your mom can just pop into the microwave? Or when you cook just make extra to be frozen for your daughter.
You could make a big salad at the beginning of every week for your daughter to pick at each day when you arent home. How about a nice fruit salad?
Soups are easy to make, nutritious if you 'hide' lots of veggies and beans in there and they freeze very well.
Meatballs are also easy to freeze and you can grate up veggies into the meat mix before you roll them out.

if the problem is making something quick and easy, gerber has a great line of graduate meals. they have meat sticks, fresh fruits, dried fruits, veggie and fruit puffs and microwavable dinners that are helth and nutritious. That's what i send my daughter off to daycare with. I hope it is useful for you....
