Hi H., I have several suggestions for you and your baby to do in Abilene... I am a mother of a 2-year-old boy and have lived in Abilene for just over two years.
- Kindermusik at the Abilene Performing Arts Center ###-###-####. Offers classes for Mommy/Daddy and baby "Village" music class AND a Mommy/Daddy and baby "Sign and Sing" sign language instruction class during the school semesters ($25/mo plus materials), but also has a summer camp in June this year (cost ?). More info at www.apacstars.com or www.kindermusik.com.
- Abilene Public Library ###-###-#### has "Baby Steps" reading time w/ babies Thursday 10:15-10:45 (free). That was their fall/spring schedule but it's generally the same in the summer. More info at www.abilenetx.com/apl/kids_programs.html.
- Grace Museum has a great Tot Spot on the 2nd floor. It's about the closest thing to a Gymboree playgym in Abilene. Admission is $5 per adult, but if you get the membership and go often, it's worth it. Half-price membership military discount.
- YMCA at Redbud Park has swimming lessons for babies in an indoor pool. Not sure of the cost/date/times. And the public pool at Oscar Rose park has a baby pool ($2?/visit)... that will open on Memorial Day.
That's about all the stuff I can remember us doing when my son was 8 months old, plus we walked A LOT before it got too hot... we definitely kept busy! Also, as your child gets older, there tends to be more programs (i.e. Gymnastics Sports Center Mommy and Me class for 1-3 year olds). I hope this helps! Cheers, F.
