What to Do with Dog Bowl

I was just wondering if anyone has come up with a creative solution to the problem of babies getting into pet bowls. My dog acts like she's perpetually starving, so the food dish isn't a problem, but we do like to leave a bowl of water out for her. Now matter where we put it though, our soon-to-be 1 year old always manages to find it and wants to play in it. It is currently in our downstairs bathroom in the shower stall. Because the stall is raised a couple inches off the floor, she was deterred for a little while, but as she gets stronger and more confident, she is figuring out ways to get in there. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!

I would agree with everyone get a gate to block. with it being so hot you don't want to keep it up and away from the dogs my dogs i refill there dishes 4-5 times a day. i have a nephew that loves the dogs stuff but after a few no's he never touched it again.good luck

My poor dogs only get water at naptime and at night!! There is no helping this one. You could keep a bowl of clean water outside or in the basement, a room where baby doesn't go, But otherwise there is no stoppin a determined toddler from slpashing in the dog bowl!

I keep my bowls in the kitchen with a gate up. That seems to work well for us.

The dog's bowls are in our laundry room which can be sectioned off by a baby gate. So far, so good!

Hi, I don't know what it is but kids just can't keep away from the dog bowls! A gate wasn't an option for us, so we kept moving the bowl up, but then our daughter would get a chair or reach for it and our dog was getting so confused, its frustrating. Now are daughter is 2 1/2 and she helps feed him, she scoops out the dry food and spoons in the wet and then takes it to him, shes very proud of this and loves her dog brother so much but even now she will dip her hands in the water to clean them or put one of her balls in his bowl from time to time so it doesn't end at least not right away. Have a sense of humor w/this is the only way I've found! M.

Hi, W.. We had the same problem with our little boy and his obsession with the cat's food. My husband installed a door to our laundry room and put in a cat door to allow her access to her food/water whenever she wanted it. I'm not sure how big your dog is (and I know what a pain it is to have a large hole in your door), but a pet door somewhere in your home (maybe a basement door?) might be an option for you. You can usually find the doors at pet supply stores. Good luck!

I wish I had an answer. Today I found my cell phone in the dogs' water bowl, and my 13-month-old grinning ear to ear. If we put the bowl somewhere he can't get to it, then the dogs can't get to it either. I usually keep it on the table for most of the day, and clean it with soap and water often so at least it's not absolutely filthy when my son gets into it.
