HELP! We are having a birthday party for my 4yr. old son this weekend. The forecast shows cold rain & wind on the day of the party. (So disappointed, as we just had a playset & sanbox installed in the backyard!!)

We will have about a dozen kids here. What types of games or activities can I plan now that we will likely be inside?

What can I do next?

My first thought was take a valium and have a glass of wine - but, oops, you meant what to do *with* the children.

Get lots of indoor activity items -arts and crafty things - set up a huge table and have directed play time. Play tent in the living room, maybe a small limbo game.

They will need activities that are physical in nature, but you can control those activities so you don't have a mini Lord of the Flies scenario on your hands.

I did a quick Google search for "Party games for 4 year olds" and found the following. There were a ton more sites. Most games used simple household items.

go to the store & get as many boxes as you can find. Either leave them undecorated or use spray paint. Use these boxes to play a variety of games/contests: tallest tower, build a fort/house, cooperative play, etc.

All you need is an open space....clear out the center of the living room or basement & let them go!

Do you have any of those cars that you pull back a few time, let them go and the go forward? If so, using painters tape, tape of long lines and line up 3-4 cars. Have the kids race their cars against one another. Boys will love this!

Have the boys make and decorate paper airplanes and decorate them. See who can fly them the farthest.

OR see if a kid friendly place has any last minute openings for a party...maybe you can get a great deal. Like Chuck E Cheese, Pump it Up, Movie Theater or Bowling.....then no kids or MESS at your place. Parents willtotally understand the change in venue and it may be way easier on you and sooooo worth the $150!

Get all the toys your son has and spread around on the floor. For his friends they are all new and different toys, they will play a lot!

Do you have Lego's? Have a Lego building contest to see who can build a specific thing, or highest tower.

Playdough-maybe too messy for inside, but could put down newspaper and have them make stuff

Pin the tail on the donkey, freeze dance. good luck that is a lot of boys!!

Call your local movie theater and see if they will give you a break on the cost or movie tickets. Buy snaks at the dollar store.
