Find a children's charity to donate them to. At this time of year, TONS of places are collecting extra school supplies for needy children. Even if the kids who receive them aren't allowed to use them in the classroom, they can use them for doing homework and other projects at home.

I would keep them for your children to do homework with. My son goes through a whole box of pencils every year for just homework. Mostly because he sharpens them more than necessary and because he deliberately looses them to try to get out of homework. He also will not use a fairly new pencil if the eraser has come off and will not allow me to put a new eraser on the pencil. I currently have 2 new boxes of pencils in my desk just for homework. Why would it hurt to just hang on to them? Even if your kids can't use them for homework this year, they have many years of school and homework ahead of them. If you feel like a pack rat keeping them, then donate them or use them for party favors.

Keep them to use at home for home to do homework. There will be days when your kid/kids are having a tough time and need something "extra" to help them out. A fun pencil may be just the thing to help them along.

Depending on age of the child, getting to pick a pencil to do homework with can be fun. Buy a practice book for handwriting and use them. Save them for goody bags for a birthday party. Use them for rewards if the kids are smaller. I wouldn't just get ride of them unless they are pencils that don't sharpen well as this can be a dissapointment as a reward.

If they aren't sharpened maybe save them for birthday goodie bags or to give out at Halloween?

You can give them to their teacher so they can give them out as prices for good behavior. You can keep them and give them to the kids in your kid's classes on christmas or valentines or even a little something on your kid's birthday, put them in the favor bags.

IME when you have elementary school-age kids in house, there's no such thing as "extra pencils" ;-). Some things we've used cute pencils for, in addition to just having around for doing homework (it's amazing how fast pencils disappear when it's time to do homework!):
- party favors
- halloween or valentines day goodie bags (because kids will get plenty of candy from everyone else LOL)
- classroom donation (if teacher has a 'treasure box' that kids can pick from after earning good behavior points)

You can donate them to your child's school. My daughters kindergarten teacher would give "fun" pencils away to student as prizes
