Our 2 1/2 year has a fever and an ear infection. I want to able to baby her and help her feel better but she will not take any medicine in any form regardless of our approach. I have tried everything and it all ends with her vomiting it up from hysterics. The other thing that is killing me is that I HAVE to go to work tomorrow. I would rather be able to stay home with her and make her feel more comfortable. Our Nanny is wonderful - any advice on what I should tell her about taking care of our sick little gal at the same time as our four month old?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Our daughter did the same thing and our doc said it was ok if you had to resort to putting the meds in a cup with a very small amount of juice and have her drink it. That's the only way we could get ours to ingest any of her meds. Good luck...my little one is very sick right now too and its hard when you are juggling work as well. I'm in the same boat and feel you pain.

I went with through the same thing with my son. To the point I was holding him down and forcing it...not fun. Part of the problem was that my son was on medication way too much. When he finally had tubes in his ears at 18 months his specialist told me antibiotic every month sometimes twice is way too much. You might try letting her do it with a little guidance. I helped my son with the medicine squeeze tube measure it and then let him squirt it in his mouth. He felt in charge and it helped tremendously.

My 3 year old is just finishing her 10 days of amoxicillin for an ear infection, and the ONLY way she would take it was in a yogurt smoothie (she didn't know it was in there). We bought the little kids' smoothies that they sell near the yogurt, and she loved it. The directions said it could be mixed with a milk product. Nothing worse than sick kids!!!

We hide it too. In a smoothie most of the time, some fruit some milk/yogurt and some ice blend it. They love helping make it so they drink it fast most of the time. I also only buy the quick dislove strips now those are so easy and even my 5yro who will not take anything will take those.

My 4-year old won't take any meds either, so we have to trick him...we put the medicine in a VERY small amount of similar-tasting juice, and give the "juice" to him with his meal. For example, we put amoxicillin in strawberry flavored milk, grape or cherry medicine in purple grape juice, etc.

Hope this helps!
