As some of you know my 7yr old is adhd. He is very active all day. Well recently he has started eating salt. just salt alone or with a little bit of food. but its mostly salt. he has an appointment with the Dr next week but I was just wondering if there was anyone else that has had this accure with their children. Any advice as to what could be causing this and perhaps what I can do to stop him from eating all the salt in the house. He has used the enitire pacage of salt within a month and now i dont even want to buy any more. Im affraid of what it could do to his system. Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

my son does this.... he is an explosive ball of energy(all the time!!) :) his pediatrician told me a little "little" salt is ok.. but when he gets that bad or i see it comming to give him gatoraid or pedalyte(sp). expecialy in summer when he works up a sweat 5 min after getting out of bed and then all day long. His ped also told me to make sure he's getting enough water too.

hope your doc can help.

What does his diet look like? Is he getting enough raw fruits and vegetables each day? Sounds like he has a nutrient deficiency. If he wants something salty, maybe let him have sea vegetables like Nori. You can buy them in the asian section of a health food store like Whole Foods.

If he's not getting enough raw fruits and vegetables I recommend getting him on Juice Plus. It's not a multivitamin, it's 17 vine ripened raw fruits and vegetables that have been juiced, powdered and put into a gummie, chewable, or capsule.

I would say to him that if he does this again you are going to pull the hospital card. I don't know what health problems can arise by eating salt. It is more of a matter of his health. Good luck, and it is really good that you have an appointment.

Hi S.
Did you have your doctor do a blood work up on him. His body could be needing salt and that is probably why is is craving it. My daughter used to do that will she was little, now she likes salt but is controlled. The other boys are just probable just learn for their older brother. Many kids look up to the older ones, they do not realize that there is a problem with their brother.

make sure to have his iodine levels checked. he could be craving it because he has a deficiency and can find it in the salt.
