6 to 8.... Some people are saying 3:30-4 what!? We dont get home from school till after 4. Then we have to get ready and have dinner. It would annoy me to answer the door while we are trying to get ready and eat.
Happy Halloween
Hi, as all of you know tomorrow is halloween and i am taking my 2 year old and 7 month old trick or treating (although my 7 month wont really understand it). I was wondering what time is generally a good time to take kids this young out and about. We plan on only going on our street and the back street and only being gone for about 45 minutes or less so they wont get cold. I just want to know around what time is usually the best time to take young kids trick or treating. Thanks!

I think right at dusk should be the time you are wrapping it up with this bunch. But, to be honest, most people would still be getting home from work and trying to eat dinner. So I say go at 6pm and be back home by 7. That way you are out a bit but not too late.
right as soon as it gets dark i would imagine.
Where we live, it's scheduled from 6-8 pm on post (military), so we'll go at 6 for probably 30 minutes or so (I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old), then head home and hand out candy to other kids the rest of the night.
Where I grew up though, it usually starts around 5:30 or 6 and just kind of goes until whenever. People handing out candy stay up/out until they decide they are done or run out of candy, and kids stay out collecting until they can't find any more houses with their lights on. :)
Ours was 4-7 tonight but I took our son by my sister's house and they started at 3 and went to 6. We lasted 35 minutes. It was soooo cold and windy the kids were loosing things out of their bags. Somewhere there's bags of Cool Ranch Doritios blowing around.
When I got home it was pouring and my husband was literally throwing handfuls of candy at ANY KID that showed up just to get rid of it.
We usually start about 6:30-7 in our neighborhood.
For two little ones who really will not get the whole Halloween thing, 3:30PM
for about 1/2 hour. I never took little ones out late.
For younger kids, the earlier the better. Mine are 3 and 5 and I am planning the same thing you are. Mine get tired of walking quickly and I just want them to have the experience of trick or treating....
In our community, trick or treating is between 6 and 8 p.m. So here, 6:00 would be the earliest time for little ones. Then they can get hoe & ready for bed on time!
Doesn't your town have a specific time, like 6-8pm? You may want to look into it so that you aren't going when people aren't expecting you.
It might depend on your town and when the "official" trick or treating hours are. The earlier the better. 5:30 seems like a reasonable time with little ones but I think our town's hours are 6 to 7.
I take my kids at 4-4:30. That seems to be when all of the little ones go around here, and we just go around our block. The older kids tend to go at dusk.
We eat dinner around 6, so I wouldn't imagine heading out around then.
I would say AS SOON as it gets dark or just as it gets to dusk. the older kids won't really come out till it's fully dark, so younger ones do better when it's earlier and a little less crowded.
Mine are little too and I take them before dark, usually 3:30 or 4ish. On a good year we last 1 block. We went a bit later as older kids. I never lived anywhere that had official hours.
We are going right when it starts to get dark. Since it is a school night, as well as it being cold here in New england, that is probaby going to be before 6pm. Most of the neighbors usually will accomadate, especially for young kids.
