Sippy cups are basically bottles with hard plastic nipples. I would try to switch to straw cups. They are better for speech development and better for their teeth. Good luck.
My son will be one year old in a couple of weeks. I am still breastfeeding him, and plan to continue to do so until he self weans. I feel like he is not nursing as much now, especially because he is eating a lot more solids. He doesn't like formula at all, but I'd like to try giving him whole milk and see how that goes. Of course I will not push it, and if he'd rather nurse then that is what I will do. I'm concerned with him taking in enough fluids as his solid foods intake increases. The problem is, he has never taken a bottle, and he has one sippy cup with a soft nipple that he can drink from, but it never seems like he gets much out of it. It's one of those ones that has the valve so that it won't spill if you turn it over. I don't like it anyways because he can push or pull the nipple out and spill the contents. I'm wondering if any of you moms out there have a particular type of cup that works for your baby, especially if your baby would not take a bottle. Even if he just takes water from it, I need something I can count on that he will actually get more than a few drips out of it. Thanks mamas!

take and toss walmart - cheap, last a long time, no valve - I hate valves
My son loves the straw cups. I totally didn't think he'd be able to do it but I just sipped in front of him and gave it to him and he was good! It works out better because he doesn't have to tilt his head so far back when there's little liquid plus I hear its better for teeth formation.
I second the take and toss cups. They are easy to clean and don't leak.
When my DD was younger 9mos-maybe 18mos, we used (and loved) the gerber sip and smile cups. They come in different levels and are easy to clean. When she got a bit older, we switched to the Playtex cups and I love them! I've never had a leak with them and they come in all sorts of cute patterns.
Playtex
Like nipples every child has their likes and dislikes, I would not invest in a ton of cups until you see which works best for the child.
My oldest went from straw cups to playtex
My middle went right to playtex
My youngest went from nubs to playtex she also likes gerber. Gerber makes noise when empty and she likes that.
My kids 1 and 3 like the Nuby Sport sippy cups.
My son always hated sippy cups, we went straight to a straw sup. We get the Munckin flip top strap cups. I usually take the straw apart and poke a few holes, so more water will come out. My son gets frustrated with the tiny amount, that come out of cups!
We use munchkin and love them. It's the only sippy cup I have found that my daughter will drink from.
Nuby is my fav! Very easy to train
I think I've tried them all. A lot of people love the Nuby cups, but both of my boys bite and chew, which can cause a gap where the "nipple" is inserted, causing a leak. I have had the best luck with the Gerber cups with the handles. They only hold about 6oz but don't leak and don't have lots of parts and valves.
Gerber Nuk - they suck on it just like nursing. I would try any sippy, personally, before you give it to him. I found that so many you had to bite down on to get anything out, especially those with the valve. If I bought any with valves, I removed them.
Between our kids being at grandmas during the day and home ofter work, we had a hard time weening to sippy cups exclusively. They would take anything except milk from any sippy cup. We couldn't get them to drink milk from anything but a bottle until my SIL showed us what she uses for her grandkids. The only place we found them is Kmart and I have no idea what the brand is. They look like a sports bottle with the pop up top (down=closed, pull up=open) except they have a silicon nipple/spout instead of the pop up top. We cut the slits in the top a little bigger as our kids like a heavier flow. Of course they do spill with the bigger hole, though.
They have Strawberry Shortcake on pink sippys and race cars on the yellow. I don't know if they come in any other designs as they are alway low on stock whenever I get to a kmart. (40 min.+ drive)
My son taught me this one.. and I let them lead on it. I was going thru sippy cups like crazy and not having real luck with one that really works. My youngest 1+ doesn't like milk, so as I was feeding my oldest, he wanted to use some straws I bought. My youngest wanted to follow suit and I gave him his milk using the straw. Worked like a charm, he drank all of it. Must be the excitement of a straw that got him going, he totally forgot he was drinking it. Now they have sippy cups with straws built in, but that didn't work because at the end, you couldn't get to the drink based on how it was designed. So the important thing for me was to have my son get his liquids and it was practical. Of course you have to hold it so it doesn't spill. Good luck.
