What's the Odds of This Happening?? (JFF)

Last night at my son's (8yrs old) baseball game he had two freak things happen to him within about 10mins of each other. First, he was up to bat, he hit the ball out close to 3rd base. The 3rd baseman picks the ball up and throws to 1st base. Just as my son his crossing the bag, the ball hit him dead in the back. The force knocked him down. He was OK after a few minutes and decided to finish the game. The next time their team was up to bat all the kids were sitting in the dugout. One of his teammates hits a foul ball which goes straight up in the air over the fence in to the dugout and smacks my son right in the mouth which gives him a big fat lip. After that he was done playing for the night...poor kid!
Anyway, does anyone else have any stories of freak things happening? After the game, his Dad told him he probably had better odds of getting struck my lightening..lol!

What can I do next?

I had a cyst and my ovary removed the cyst was the size of a grape fruit. Well about two days after I got home from the hospital I decided to get on the scale to see if I lost weight when I woke up to pee at 4am very dopy from the pain meds. Well when I pushed my self away from the wall to get off the scale I was so weak and lost my balance and fell and broke my wrist cause I could not catch myself. I ended up needing pins in my wrist. After that I told people that weighing was bad for my health.

This story isn't as light hearted, but a few year ago, our local Eagles Lodge collapsed, during a meeting. (It was in a very old building). The next week, one of the members was supposed to go in for a routine surgery, and the surgeon was going through the list of things that can go wrong. He unfortunatually used the phrase, "The odds of this happening are about the same as having the roof fall in on you." The gentleman promptly got up and left the hospital, leaving his wife to explain what had just happened. Years later, we can laugh, but at the time, it devistated the community.

I am case #2 EVER of someone having a traumatic bone cyst in her jaw. I was discussed at dental conferences.

I have also had a false POSITIVE on a pregnancy test.

The answer to the question, "Who does that even happen to?" is "me."

My oldest has gotten himself into some pretty odd predicaments. He got his thumb stuck in a coke can, swallowed the tab of a soda can, and gotten his leg stuck in a seat belt by wrapping the seat belt around it, pulling it all the way out and letting it go until it locked. Now that last one was pretty scary because it was so tight around his leg it was really hurting. Luckily it was the middle seat belt in the van and has a mechanism that frees it from the seat (so seats can be removed.) And just so you know we are not big soda drinkers in our house, hmmmm maybe he's the reason why.

I love things like this :) A few months ago, I was in our garage looking for something and I stood on my tip toes and felt a pop. No pain, just a pop; it continued to pop pop pop with every step I took for over a week until I decided I needed to see a podiatrist. It was fractured! So I wore a boot for 3 weeks and THEN my foot started hurting. Go back to Dr, fracture healed, but pain is from a Nueroma (a tumor that grows sometimes due to a fractured bone). Well, I got the boot off & a steroid shot for the Nueroma, but because it was hurting so badly, I started walking on the outside of my foot. 5 days later the Nueroma starts to feel better, but now the top part of my foot started hurting. Go back to Dr, I have a inflamed joint from limping from the pain from the steroid shot that I needed because of the tumor that was caused by the broken bone that never even hurt! Ha!

Oh I could give you a list! There was the time I dropped a plastic lid in the shower on my foot and had to get butterfly stitches, the time I was watching Fireworks (not even close to them) and got a hot ember in the eye (ER visit), or the day that I got my hand slammed in-between some heavy boxes, then 20 minutes later had a colleague drop a metal bar on my head.

Yeah, I am the queen of weird things happening. I come by it honestly though. My grandpa is more hardware than he is human anymore. :)

I carry a very rare sickle cell trait (D/G) trait. My husband does not. That means there is a 50% chance any of my kids will have the trait. Well, 4 kids later and they all have the trait. the chance of all of them with the trait are are so slim. Too bad I can't win the lottery!

Add that to my blue eyes are recessive and his brown eyes dominant. So there is supposedly a 17% chance of blue eyed babies. 3 of the 4 have super blue eyes.

At my daughter's last soccer tournament game, one boy on her team got hit in the head with the ball from across the field (knocked him down) and then 15 minutes later, a kid kicked the ball in from the sideline and nailed the poor boy right in the face. Luckily nothing was broken but he did show us the huge bruise on his back after the game.
My daughter is fairly accident prone, when she was a baby she was constantly getting into things and reaching a lot further than I thought she could (window sills etc) I had to call the poison control 3 times in a month because she ate things that I thought were dangerous- the first was the little silica packets that say "do not eat" in big letters all over them; apparently they are not poisonous just a choking hazard. The second was she woke up from her nap and reached over to the windowsill and ate my African violet plant and I didn't know if it was poisonous and didn't have internet to google to check. The third was she got into her tube of zinc oxide and ate/smeared most of it all over her face- again, I wasn't sure if it was poisonous and didn't have internet and the tube said do not ingest.
More recently my daughter broke two of her fingers on the day of my wedding (October) and then in November broke her nose while running (and looking at the sky) out at recess and ran into the monkey bar rung and knocked herself out.

I am sorry to hear the 2 odd things that happened to your son yesterday were not the most pleasurable. I myself had 2 odd things happen yesterday which I am still shocked about. My brother committed suicide last September. He was 22 years old and my family has WAY more questions than answers to anything. My brother had several tattoos, one of which was the phase "save your judgement". I had been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while. I really liked the message and wanted to honor my brother so I got a tattoo with that phase it in. Well, yesterday I went to the tattoo shop to socialize with the artist who did my tattoo. While I was there I was looking through one of the portfolio books and recognized a tattoo that was on my brother's arm. I asked about the origins of the picture and I was told, "I drew that tattoo on a young man who passed away last September". My heart stopped. It was my brother's tattoo! I got a tattoo by the same person who had drawn one on my brother! To top it all off, my brother and I live 1.5 hours apart. The tattoo artist had relocated to my neighborhood during the last year, but had lived in the city where my brother lived. CRAZY!

Then at my son's kindergarten celebration ceremony last night. He was selected to be Elvis. My brother loved Elvis. He dressed up as him almost every halloween. My mom still had the sequined jumpsuit my brother used to wear. My son got to wear it yesterday. I haven't even mentioned the fact that my son is so shy. I can't believe he got up in front of 315 kindergartener and the entire audience of adults and lip-synched to a song. I am so proud of him and I couldn't help to remember my brother was he was a child and full of happiness.

As I said, I am still in shock today. I don't believe in heaven, hell or the afterlife, but something crazy happened yesterday. My fact and science-based mentality is being put to the test. :)

Let's hope any more strange happenings are as joyous filled as this one. Thanks for listening to me. Apparently I needed to share. :)
