What's the Difference Between a Babyhawk Mei Tei and a Sling Mei Tei?

It sounds like they are pretty much the same based on the descriptions online....but there's a nice price difference between the two. Do you know what the real difference is between them, and can you recommend one over the other?

What can I do next?

In babywearing, a mei tai is a type of carrier, and the Babyhawke is a brand of mei tai (think, facial tissue, brand name Kleenex). Mei tai's all have 4 cloth straps and a squarish or rectangular piece that holds the baby to you. You can tie it different ways to your body (front carry, baby facing you or outward; back carry; side carry).

A sling is a different type of carrier that goes over the shoulder and has a sort of pouch that the baby sits in. A sling is worn across the baby and the baby sits in the pouch, balanced against your opposite hip.

I'm pretty familiar with babywearing, and you've got me stumped with what a "sling Mei Tai" would be. A Mei Tei is a type of carrier, and Babyhawk is a brand name, but a sling is a different style of carrier altogether.

I'm not sure as I haven't owned one, but I've tried on this brand and several others at Be By Baby on Roscoe and Lincoln in Chicago. They are super nice, and they have a big selection to try on and will give you tips. They even have a sling class (a low price just cuz otherwise people don't show up) that really really helped me and my husband out!!
They do have a short return policy, since they are a small store, but their prices are comparable to online I think.
(p.s. We got an Ergo and have used it for all 3 years for our first daughter!)

I can't speak to the difference, but I did get a babyhawk. My best friend got it for me and i loved it. She had extensively researched carriers when she had her own daughter, and liked this one because when they are little you can put their legs in and not have them spread, which I guess is better for their hips. I found it very easy to use and put on myself. I could put in on and walk up and down the hall of our condo and my little guy would fall asleep in it, it was also great when we traveled when he was little I walked him around the airport, he fell asleep and I walked on the plane with him in it was able to sit down and just untie the back and have him in my lap and he never woke up. I would also walk the dog and it worked great. I did also try a peanut shell sling, but it didn't work for me, it didn't sit right and never felt secure. I also liked that with the babyhawk you can design your own style, which is kind of cool. Good luck with your choice.
