Hello well I started transcribing about 3 months ago. I do it part time and I actually do it at the drs office. I only work nights or weekends, when ever my schedule works. All you do is listen to the dictation, what the dr. has recorded in regards to the patients. Retype everything he says and that is it. I love it and its a good way to make some extra money. I did the at home schooling but to become a medical claims/ billing specialist but decided I didn't want to go that route. The school I went to was great. They mailed everything to you, then you mailed your tests back and work at your own pace. They actually have a medical transcription class you can take. I started an on-line course so I didn't have to attend a traditional school. The school is Allied. Go to alliedschools.com. Scroll to find medical transcription. The course was around $1600 when I ordered. This includes a medical terminology course and the transcription course itself (both of which you will have to learn). I have not finished the course, so I don't have much more advise after that. Good Luck! OH, yes you can do it part time...I have the contact info for a woman who actually hires people straight out of school. She told me at first you can make about 1000/mo working 12-16 hours/wk depending on how fast you type. But then after you get going thru her (she gives you all the work, you don't have to find anything! and it's stay at home!) you can go out on your own and make more (not having to go thru a middle-man) If you are interested, message me separately, and I'll send you her number.

Hi, I actually started the home course last month. My sister-in-law does it from home full-time and makes about $400 a week. I have been a stay at home Mom with my 6 year old and 4 year old. My 4 year old will be starting Kindergarten next year, so I want something to do, but with the flexibility to attend their school functions, be there when they are sick, etc. I am going through Blackstone Career Institute. Medical transcription is a great way to make extra money. It involves listening to doctor's dictation and typing exactly what you hear. There are books you can use to get acquainted with the format these reports are to be written in. Usually, you get paid a certain amount per line of type. Those lines add up. What you earn would depend on the type of facility you work for. Busier practices have more dictation, so that could mean more money for you. Try looking online for transcription services or clinics who need transcriptionists. Hope all this was helpful.

I am currently attending PCDI for their Medical Transciptionsit course. I looked into others and this was the best priced I found. I am only paying around $850.00 for my course and they send everything to my home. I really love the course and can't wait to get started. My Aunt does it and makes about $600 a month doing it. You can go online to the job sites and find companies looking for transcribers. You can also just google it and find sites and companies also!
