We are in between jobs and need health insurance for our 2 year old daughter. We need it for about 1 month, and it should cover the US and Canada (ideally also Europe).
What would you recommend?

What can I do next?

If you're between jobs, can you get COBRA? That's the kind of thing its designed for.

I would honestly look into doing the State-funded CHIP program. You've been paying for it all along and you may as well use it if you need to.

Contact CHIP. Because you're not currently employed, the typical 6 month coverage gap requirement would not apply. You will be able to keep it for her even after you re-gain employment, and renew it in a yearly basis.

I would call them first rather than immediately applying through Compass online. The number to reach them is 1-800-986-KIDS. They can take your application information over the phone for fastest processing of your application.

They are online at http://www.chipcoverspakids.com/

I was also going to mention looking into CHIP. I don't know if it covers Canada and Europe. BTW, if you also need coverage you can ask about the adult CHIP plan.

Regarding COBRA, if you worked for a small company COBRA may not be available to you. My husband worked for 2 small companies and therefore we were not eligible for it (I actually think I remember reading that the regulations require a company to be of a certain size for COBRA to be an option). I'd look into it though to be sure.

Cobra is what you should get. As someone else mentioned-that is what it is designed for. Your old company is legally obligated to offer it to you.
