i've got something red, rashy looking, bumpy about the size of a quarter.
there seems to be like 5 heads on it, like how an insect bite would look or like on a pimple. i know this is nasty, sorry!! obviously i don't know what it is and i know y'all can't see it (thankfully, lol), but that's not my question, my question is what should i put on it? hydrocortisone cream, neosporin, nothing? should i cover it or no? it's slightly painful. right now i have neosporin on it covered w/a bandaid so it won't rub my clothes. it's under my left butt cheek, i know, gross, i'm sorry to ask about it on here, but i wasn't sure what to say if i googled it and would rather hear y'alls answers on what i could possibly put on it than other strangers, lol...i like my mama strangers, hee hee :)
the only person i have to ask is my bf, who says it looks like a boil, but i've never seen a boil w/5+ heads, ugh.

thanks so much everyone for your help! went to doc today, it's a staph infection/skin infection. hair follices became infected. it ended up getting 15 heads on it! so freakin' gross. gave me an oral antibiotic, soooo glad i went in!

You're not giving too much info...how could we answer your question without everything you described? It could be an ingrown hair, or too much moisture built up to cause a "boil"? Maybe you should keep it dry. I know every blue moon I get what looks like/feels like a zit, and it goes away. Look here, I gave a little tmi too, lol!
Without a picture, it's even harder for anyone online to be able to offer you help, & of course none of us are a replacement for the good advice of a doctor who has seen you personally.
That said, make sure you wash it with warm soapy water. Keep it clean & dry. If you feel you must put something on it, I would use Neosporin, not Hydrocortisone cream (hydrocortisone has a mild steroid, & should not be used without checking with your doctor first)
Because of the location, I strongly suggest getting in to see a doctor, sooner than later. It could very possibly be a staph infection. Without taking a swab & culturing it in the lab, there's no way to know for sure, but if it is, you will probably need antibiotics to make sure the infection clears up.
Unless it is open & weeping, it can probably wait until Monday. Call your doctors office first thing in the morning & see if they can take you in. If not, ask to speak with the nurse & describe the symptoms, they may recommend you go to urgent care if there are no appointments available for your doctor.
Considering the location, make sure to be careful when going to the bathroom to keep it clean until you have gotten seen by a doctor. Good luck. T.

Could be so many things and without seeing it can't really help you. Location but not description sounds like impetigo which nothing over the counter will help. Thing is impetigo looks more like a burn but it loves places that don't get a lot of air like under cheeks, arm pits, bends and folds.
Other than that hydrocortisone is you best bet, they make some that kills pain too.
I'd start with hydrocortisone, and if it isn't better by the morning, go to your doctor, of if they don't have weekend clinic hours, urgent care (only if it is painful and not helped by OTC remedies).
Sorry - I would advise you to call your doctor and ask him/her what to do and what to put on it.
None of us know if it's an allergic reaction to something.
None of us know if it's shingles. (which is painful)
I wouldn't put anything on it until a doctor looked at it. It's GOT to be uncomfortable to sit on. Call and ask your advice nurse. It would help if you had a picture we could see - but alas - that doesn't happen here!
I know I would NOT pop it. As you don't know what's in it. and you might not get all of it out which could lead to an infection.

I'm about 99% sure I know what this is. If you had these symptoms with it......itching like fire! After intense itching (refrain from doing this..it makes it larger)it hurt while the bumps were forming. Sore to touch or sit on it. Also, does it feel hard underneath it? If yes to the above, It is a herpes bump. Yep. It is sexually transmitted but it can remain dormant for 10 to 15 years before you even get your first bump. You'll get one when you menstruate or are stressed out. If you're lucky you will just get one. Just one in the same spot every time. If you're not...you can break out all over. Just don't touch it because it is very contagious! Very. You can spread it. When you do touch it, wash your hands and don't touch your eye or something!
It could be anything. Sounds like it could be a yeast rash like what babies get in their diaper. But without confirmation from a doctor, I really wouldn't put anything on it. Bathe but make sure you rinse with clean water, pat dry, and air dry. Wear loose cotton clothing. Get to a doctor. If you can't get to one until Monday just keep it clean and airy and try to avoid wearing clothing that will rub against it... and for that matter no sex. Suppose it's an STD that you could pass along to your boyfriend or just that sex and the messiness that comes along with it aggravates it.
Yes, I would put hydrocortisone and I might also put some benedryl cream...if it's some type of allergic reaction, that should cover the bases.
I does sound like a carbuncle which is a cluster of boils.
Some will say it needs a doctor but I've never bothered for the few boils I've had (it's not worth the co-pay for me to make an office visit).
Keep it covered during the day but at home apply hot compresses.
You want to bring them to a head then lance them with a sterile pin (using rubbing alcohol on the area and pin before and after).
If your boyfriend isn't squeamish maybe he can help.
Once burst the pain goes away and it should heal up fairly quickly.
You can use Neosporin on it after bursting and keep a band aid on it if they weep a bit.
