What Should I Feed My 1 Year Old

My son will be 1 years old tomorrow. He's always been a great eater. He's liked everything I've given him. Right now he takes about 15-20oz of formula a day in addition to oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, a 3rd Food fruit for am snack, a 3rd Food veggie for lunch, Gerber puffs or dried fruit for a pm snack, and 3rd Food dinner. In terms of meat, I've only given him chicken and turkey because I don't eat red meat. I've let him taste table food whenever my husband and I are eating and he's done fine. My question is - he has a severe milk allergy and all of the Gerber Toddler meals are made with milk. Since he can't have milk, what are some healthy table food ideas to feed him - other than carrots and mash potatoes.

What can I do next?

My best advice is to get a cookbook for meals for babies and toddlers. When my daughter was about 10 months old my husband surprised me with one and I have loved it! I haven't tried all the recipes, but it gave me some great ideas about baby appropriate foods and the recipes I have made, my daughter has loved. Best of luck!

Be careful because milk hides in food! LOL Hotdogs, turkey sausage and some deli meats have milk. Also chicken broths can have milk in them and most chicken has chicken broth added to it. I recommend Kosher meats. Some soups have milk. A great place to go and look around is a whole foods place. I love NewFlower off Preston in Plano. Some Kashi cereal bars are soft and dairy free. Pilsbury has a lot of dairy free items in the freezer section. The croissant rolls, pizza dough, sugar cookie and peanut butter cookie dough is dairy free. Look up Tuffutti products. They have a Better Than Cream Cheese product and Cutties. The dairy free cheeses are gross! I don't recommend them. The smell alone killed that product for my son. WestSoy is a soy yogurt you can try. The SILK yogurts have milk in them. Once he is older Hunts lemon pudding cups, Oreos, SOME Devil's Food cake mixes/SOME vanilla frosting mixes, SOME brownie mixes, Lindts 70% chocolate bars and strawberry poptarts are dairy free. I have also found a dairy free chocolate/Banana/Vanilla/Chocolate Vanilla pudding cups at NewFlower! Not healthy but dairy free treats that make them feel like everyone else! Also knowing the cake mixes make birthdays easier on you! Earth's Balance in the brown tub is a safe butter. Although my son likes his veggies plain thanks to being dairy free! Much better for him. You can also try sweet potatoes and baked squash.

At 1, I usually fed off of my plate. The gerber toddler meals are nothing but flavored salt (apparently with milk added).. they really are not healthy by any stretch of nutrition rules.

Meat, grains, veggies, rice or soy milk - the works. With all of the soy products out there now, a dairy challenged kid can still eat just about anything - made with soy, instead of milk.

My 11 month old loves a piece of whole grain bread broken up into small pieces. Also, you can steam broccoli and cauliflower and mash them up. As far as meat goes, my son loves the canned chicken that's already in small chunks. It kinda sounds gross, and it is salty but if I have time I'll actually cook a chicken and then take some breast meat and boil it in plain water until really soft tehn feed that to him. Good luck, these are hard waters to navigate but it's just trial and error.
