What Should I Expect? - Mesa,AZ

I went in for a 60 minute massage with a therapist I saw once before. (I have only had 3 massages in my lifetime and this was to be my fourth one, so I am kind of inexperienced on these kind of services.) My appointment was at 12pm, but she was ten minutes late.

She took me in at 12:10, I got on table at 12:15. When I got up, I looked at my watch, and it was 1:00pm, not 1:10 or 1:15. I didn't say anything and still tipped 20%. But I felt like I it should have ended at 1:10 or 1:15, since I paid for a 60 minute treatment. (I was out of room at 1:03.)

What should I expect when paying for a 60 minute massage or facial? Thanks.

What can I do next?

Typically when a 60 minute massage is booked the massage itself will be 50 minutes in length. She was probably late getting back from lunch and didn't go past the 1 pm time slot b/c then she would be behind all day. Was it fair? No. You should have said something to either the therapist or the front desk/receptionist and requested a cost break.
As an LMT there is no way I would have charged someone for a full massage when I was the one late. That was bad practice.
Sorry!

60 minute appointments are actually 50 minutes long. She gave you full measure.

Whenever you're unsatisfied with a service talk with the provider. Approach it with an I want to understand this, attitude.

I expect a 60 minute massage if that is what I have scheduled and paid for. That said, I do realize that it may be 45-50 of massaging because I had to go in, undress, and after the massage redress and that consumes the 60 minutes alotted to me. When in doubt, ask.

60 minute massages are typically 50 minutes for the service (time to disrobe and then get dressed at the end). They usually allow ten minutes for the process. I usually schedule a 90 minute to get more out of it.

It's kinda misleading - but most massages are 50 minutes. You can call the salon to verify this. They usually allow 5 minutes on each side for dressing/undressing. The place I go to allows clients to "rest" on the bed for 15 minutes after the massage and plans the day that way.

Hope this helps!

You should have said something, and definitely not have tipped. Made it clear when she was late......."it's 12:15, will my massage go to 1:15?" OR "it's 1PM, shouldn't my massage go until 1:15 since you arrived late?" All would have been settled then and there. If the massage usually runs 50min, then she would have made that clear as well.

I wouldn't use her again. What she did was unprofessional. You should not have tipped her. However, just to let you know, you should be 15 minutes early for your massage and be dressed in order to be on that table for your entire 60 minute massage. I'm sure she had a client right after you, why she didn't give you another 10 minutes, but she should have apologized and told you that she would make it up for you next time.

You don't have to tip for poor service. 20 percent is for excellent service.

You got about 50 out of 60 mins, which is pretty standard anyway.
This gives you time to change and she stays on schedule.

An hour massage is 50 minutes, a 90 minute massage is 80 minutes. You got gipped 5 minutes. Still irritating I know.
