My son is the same, and when I asked my pedi about it, she told me that I was lucky because potty training would be easier for us because of that. So I'm not at all worried anymore.
My son is nearly 2.5 yrs. old and has had maybe 6 hard stools, all the rest since birth have been very mushy in consistency. He was breastfed for 22 mo. and is now on whole milk. I have lessened the amount of milk he gets daily to somewhere between 15-20 oz. because the Dr. said no more than 24 oz. daily. I am wondering if this is normal. He never complains of stomach aches or anything. Otherwise, he is a very healthy boy.

My son has been having soft stools lately, and drinks his 1% milk. At 2, his doc said to go to 1-2%. I have been trying to get him to eat some of the BRAT foods lately and take a probiotic, but I can't say I'm that regular right now either, so maybe something is going around.
If just mushy and not watery, theres nothing wrong here. A healthy persons stool is supposed to be soft and easy to pass.
He sounds a little constipated to me. Before you give him his cup of milk, mix some Miralax with HOT water to disolve it, then add it to his sippy. THat will soften the stool. I would say use 2 tsps per bottle...NOT MORE than 8 tspns per day. If you want the ol natural way, give him some refried beans for dinner a few nights in a row
My soon-to-be 3 yr old daughter is the same as your son, mushy, about 80% of the time. I think it's normal :)
My son's is somewhere between what comes out of me as an adult and what comes out of a baby so I think we are all good.
I don't know what is normal... but my 2.5yr old son has had solid/hard stools since shortly after I stopped breastfeeding at 18 months. He drank whole milk and Next Step until about 26 months, and then I switched him to 2%. He drinks anywhere from 8-15oz of milk a day. If you take the milk out of his diet, make sure he gets calcium and Vit D from some other source.
Have you asked your pediatritian? I wouldn't think it would be anything to be worried about, maybe just a result of his foods. I think that is better than too hard/constipation b/c that can be miseralbe for a tot! I would mention it to his pediatritian at his next visit (or call if it is not until he is 3yrs old), but I wouldn't be worried!
I would eliminate the milk completely and just make sure he gets plenty of water, veges fruit, whole grains and nuts. There really is no need for whole milk in any child's diet as long as they get plenty of whole plant foods. Also, whoever heard of a cow, or any other animal for that matter, drinking milk once they are weaned? They get all their nutrition from plants!
