I second the Tsukihoshi shoes. I just got a pair for my 1 year old who is not quite walking. They are lightweight, easy to get on and can be worn with or without socks. They are made of breathable material to allow this. They also have some antibacterial lining so their feet don't stink and you can throw them in the washing machine if you take the lining out. I am a pediatric PT and agree with some of the previous posters about not having to go to Stride Right or spend a ton of money on shoes. The only problem is at this age it is really important that the shoe fits properly and you aren't going to have salespeople at target and kohls etc who are able to do that. I tend to go to a children's shoe store to get the kids fitted for a good pair of shoes and then buy the additional ones at target/kohls etc once I know what size they are.
