What Kind of Potty Chair Do You Recommend for a 2 Yr Old Toddler?

Hi everyone, I am getting ready to potty train my 2 yr old son and wanted some opinions from you what type of potty chair you used for the training of your little one. I thought it's good to show him the chair now and tell him what to do. He's talking a little bit, he says when he "he goes" but it's usually after the fact :) Anyway, getting a chair now may be early but I just wanted to know which type to get. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Happy new year!

my sister passed on a plastic type potty chair that was a chair that actually sat on the floor. my daughter disliked it b/c after sitting for a while it would really leave creases in her legs and on her bottom. she wasnt interested in using the potty b/c the potty hurt she said.

so i actually got for 10 bucks the seat insert for the regular toilet. they are padded nicely and have sesame street or dora figures on them. and then sit down right into your toilet and some have handles on them or a spill guard in the front for boys too. i paired that with a stool at the bottom of it so she could get up whenever she needed.

we just ALWAYS had to remember to put the potty seat back whenever us adults were done using it, b/c one time she fell in and was scared for a while again. i ended up getting a second seat so i always had one in each bathroom for her and didnt have to run up and down. they were readily available when she needed. and easily cleaned and thrown in a plastic grocery bag to send along to the baby sitters.

i hope you find something that works for you guys!

i have bought several different styles. The first one I bought was the kind where the seat lifts off and can go on the toilet, it also becomes a stool. I hated it! My younger one was always taking it apart, and the soft seat became disgusting after a short while. soft seats are nasty!!!!!!!! if you do get a soft seat, i recommend the $5 plain white one at walmart... then you can replace it every once in a while.

then I bought one with a hard seat, that would also turn into a step stool and the seat could be used on the potty... but the cup sat on top of the seat, and the pee would leak into the space and go under the seat. again, gross! but easier to clean that the soft seat.

The last and my favorite is the $10 Target brand potty. this one also doubles as a step stool, but the lid and seat do not come off, and the cup comes out of the front. between my two daughters, we have been using this style for over 2 years now with no issues. we had one upstairs and one downstairs... since it's so cheap, it's no big deal to buy more than one. I highly recommend it!!!!!!!!!

We have a Bjorn Little Potty and a Potty Chair (the one with the back - my daughter didn't really like it). I saw some really cool little potty knock-offs at IKEA that come in all sorts of colors - I wish they had them a year ago! ETA: it's called LATTSAM: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30141225

I got one that was a stool when closed and a potty otherwise, but I hate it. It has a bowl that you remove to wash. That sounds so convenient, but my kids like to take it out and throw it around and then my daughter will sit and use the toilet, not realizing it is gone!! It also has a cushy insert that goes on top of the potty that is never there when needed. I thought this would be a great seat because of the versatility (the seat part will fit on your big toilet too), but it is way too annoying. We also bought a little bitty plain potty from Baby Bjorn. I think it was $10 at Toys R Us an it is simple and easy to clean. It is all one piece. Now that my daughter is potty trained we keep it in the car to use when at a park or somewhere with no bathrooms. I just dump it out in the grass or a garbage can, and clean it up with a baby wipe. Hope this helps. For me, simple was way better!

Hi Maria, we've tried a few and I really like the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair. My son was such a big-boy, and I like that it had the built-in cup in front, it never leaked! Nice and simple, there's really nothing there to make him play around with it and have spilling accidents :)

SIMPLE is DEFINITELY better. I got the Baby Bjorn from Target. It was like $25. No bells and whistles, no songs, no toys, no games. But it is smooth plastic with a removable pot. Super easy to empty and clean. I only have one child, so losing the pot portion wasn't a problem for us. The novelty of all the 'bells and whistles' potties wears off almost instantaneously, and you're left with a potty that's just hard to clean.

The only other thing we did try was the padded smaller toilet seat with handles that you place on the big toilet. But this didn't work for us. I can't imagine that it would work for most little boys just learning. It raised my son so far off the actual toilet that he couldn't get his "peep" angled down far enough to actually pee in the toilet. He ended up peeing across the room. It's hard enough for little ones just figuring out how to go on the potty, let alone the dealing with having to have excellent aim and control at such an early stage in the process! Most men can't aim those things, let alone little guys that are just learning! LOL Just a little word of caution from another mother of a little boy who was recently potty trained.

One last thing... I started trying to familiarize my son with the whole "peeing on the potty" idea at around 2 or so also, but it ultimately took until he was almost 3 1/2 before I would say he was actually trained. Be patient. Although they show "signs" of readiness, it doesn't mean that training will happen quickly or immediately. Just prepare yourself that it might take much longer to actually accomplish the goal.

Best of luck to you!
