I think a pediatrician is best. They are used to the questions you have and are on call to help you round the clock. i don't know of a GP who would call you back in 15 minutes on 4th of July do you ? Good Luck:)
Hi Moms,
just wondering what you think???
Do you see a pediatrician or a family doctor??
What do you recommend??
Thanks.

Hi Mama C. I'm a Mom that chooses to go to specialized Doctors whenever possible -- so I use a Pediatrician for my kids, an Internal Medicine Doctor as my general Doctor, OB to deliver my kids, Gyne for annual exams and mammograms, and other specialists for other acute medical issues. I made this decision because I think that Physicians today barely have enough time to keep up with all the studies and advances in their specific field, let alone the entire world of medicine. Hence, my Pediatricians can really dig into the research, studies and conferences, etc. on children's medical issues (autism, inoculation safety, ADD, etc.) and not be bogged-down by keeping up with medical issues irrelevant to a child (arthritis, etc.)
But, either way, the most important factor is for you to be comfortable with the Doctor(s) you choose. Go with your gut feeling on what is right for you. If you are happy, the kids will be happy. And you can always change your mind and switch doctors later.
I have a wonderful pediatrician for my kids but my best friend uses a GP for her family and is very happy with that decision. I think both have their pros and cons...what it comes down to is finding a doctor that you like and feel comfortable with and trust. I actually wanted to find a GP for my kids because I saw one growing up and liked having one doctor for all or most of my needs but our insurance changed before I had the kids and I was't able to see her anymore. So my first instinct would be to tell you to research family doctors and see if you can find one you like, but don't rule out the pediatrician if your just not having any luck...also word of mouth is one of the best tools when looking for a doc so ask around! If you decide on a pediatrician, I know a great one you should try. Good Luck!
I had a pediatrician with my oldest(now24)til she was 11 months and was never happy with him. I switched over to a GP and have been happy with that decision. If fact, our GP delivered my last 2 (now 12 and 10) and I do not regret that one either. Kind of nice, when they were born, he went right over to them, didn't have to call another dr. His bedside manner is great also.
Good luck...
My son and husband have seen the same doctor since our son was born 18 years ago. The see Dr. Robin Purdy D.O. and they just love him. The majority of parents think you need to see a pediatrician because they specialize. But I will tell you Dr. Purdy looked at our son as a little person, not just a baby that had to fit into a flow chart of what every baby should be doing. We were able to start our son on regular milk earlier than any ped. would have said OK to. We were able to say no to any shots we may have decided we did not want our son to have. Now that our son is 18 years old he can continue with Dr. Purdy as his Doctor not have to look for a new doctor.
I think a child is more comfortable when he or she knows they go to the same doctor as mom or dad.
This is just my option but I like the family doctor...
