What Is Wrong with My Back???

Me and my fiancé were laying in bed the other night and we were cuddling and being all cute. Well his arm got tired and he decided to move his arm and accidentally elbowed the bending area of my spine. I can't even sleep on my side and for me that is how I sleep. Should I go to a doctor. He accidentally hit it pretty hard and I'm just concerned I may have to have this forever.

What can I do next?

Yep, you need a doctor. Could be nothing more than a bad bruise, but it could also be spine, spleen, or kidney related. You won't know until you're looked at.

Yes, go to your doctor. They may give you an xray, a CT scan and/or a MRI. Your symptoms will tell them if there is nerve damage or not. Do you have paralysis or tingling down your arms and legs for example? Can you go to the bathroom? I would guess that this is something you will recover from, but you need to go see your doctor. You probably should take it easy and ice it.

Welcome to mamapedia, Ms Curious A Lot...

WHY have you NOT gone to a doctor yet? If you are in pain? You should go to the doctor.

Back injuries can be nasty, and it's hard to find a comfortable position. But don't start out deciding that you will have this forever! You don't even know what it is. I'm not sure what you mean by the "bending area" of your spine since the whole spine bends, but a doctor will be able to help you. Start with your primary care physician, who may be able to help you on the first visit, or possibly may refer you to any of a number of specialists (orthopedist, osteopath, physical therapist, chiropractor - but not all of them!). You may need a test first, but maybe not. Start out with a basic exam.

For now, put ice on it! Get a good gel ice pack from any good sized pharmacy, or use a bag of frozen peas or corn (anything with small pieces in it that will mold to your back). Put ice on for 15 minutes, then off for 15 minutes (refreeze the ice pack in the meantime). Take ibuprofen or another anti-inflammatory over-the-counter medication if you aren't allergic. And rest, rest, rest.

From someone who lives with chronic back pain that will never go away.. see a doctor. "Trauma" to your spine can cause issues, that cause a significant amount of pain and discomfort. As stated by another member, go see your primary care doctor. He can refer you to another doctor if necessary. Should you not get any answers, but the pain and discomfort continues, be persistent! See another doctor if you have to! Best wishes to you and feel better!

I would. If I hurt myself and it doesn't improve in what i consider to be a reasonable amount of time, I see my doctor. I just keep notes on what worsens it so I can fill them in. If I'm in pain, I don't wait long. I also wouldn't want to aggravate it. I'd take it easy until I could get in.
