I have gained 5 pounds that need to go. I can't stand them being here yet I can't seem to stay on track to get rid of them!! I KNOW how to eat to lose weight but just can't seem to get there! My weaknesses are things that I can't really eliminate from the house because my kids eat them... cheese, triscuts, bread etc. I start off the day great and then pig out and ruin the whole days efforts. I am so sick of saying, "I guess I'll start tomorrow," yet I keep saying it. Has anyone else been through this and how did you overcome it?

What can I do next?

Sweety you are beating yourself up over 5 pounds. Give yourself a break! Make sure you are eating enough calories. I've been steadily losing weight for 1 1/2 years now, and I know that if I do not eat enough calories at each meal, I tend to want to pig out later in the day. But if I eat enough calories, especially protein, I do fine. Also remember to exercise at least 30 minutes daily. Good luck!

Gosh, my weight fluctuates quite a lot during the month - at least five pounds if not closer to 8.

But anyhow, here are my suggestions:

1. We can start our day over at any time. Morning is fairly arbitrary, really.

2. Be nice to yourself! Figure out what you like about your snacks. Is it the act of pampering yourself? Do you enjoy the savory taste? Do like to chew/oral fix? Do you feel bored/stressed/happy/tired when you go for your snacks? Are you depriving yourself of essential nutrients and calories? If you figure out what it is that you need, you might find a solution to meet that need without reaching for your X, Y, Z.

3. Affirmations (super cheesy, but yes, I'm a believer).
I love myself!
I deserve the gift of health!
It doesn't have to be all or nothing!
No matter my weight I am valuable.

I had 10lbs that needed to go for the last 3 years so I can totally relate. I am now down 12lbs in the last 7 weeks. Why I did not do it before is beyond me. I now have such a sense of accomplishment and I look so much better if I say so myself:).
How I did it... First I told myself that this was not a diet I was just going to stop eating all refined sugar (junk food) and bread products. Then I told myself it was not forever but for next 12 wks I had to do this. I also started to eat a lot more protein. I also do not worry about the amount of fat I consume. Fatty foods cause you to become fat when consumed with carbs. My "dessert" is now a large bowl of berries with homemade whipped cream with a little Splenda. (Get a magic bullet or a blender like it where the you mix the ingredients in your drinking cup).
The truth is after the results I have achieved I have no desire to go back to my old eating habits.
I have also worked up to riding 20-30 miles a day (1hr 20 min to 2 hours) on the exercise bike over the last 7 weeks. Good luck! You can do it!!

Yes:) For motivation to stay on track, I look through the Fitness section on Pinterest and see other people's befores/afters. It's hard, you really got to want it and it's a decision on your part if you are going to reach for the crackers or say an apple with some peanut butter instead. At least it's only 5lb's, others would love to only have 5lbs to lose, instead they let their weight creep up to now they are looking at 6o+ lbs to lose.

It's all about how you perseve the issue, mind over matter. Not sure what your eating habits are but sounds to me that if you are pigging out at night you are limiting yourself too few calories during the day. As far as weakness goes I have been on my lifestyle change journey now for about a year, 100% commited aout 6 months. Not only am I a sahm, I also run a small daycare out of my home. I am around food non stop! So I decided to have them eat how I eat. You can still have cheese, by low fat and use moderation, triscuits why not? Are you trying to restrict carbs? The best investment I made was buying a good digital food scale (about $40). I measure EVERYTHING!! I mean down to a teaspoon of peanut butter! As americans we under estimate portion by size by approx. 40%! An additional 40% more calories a day that we don't know we are consuming! I must ad my kids do get mac and cheese a couple times a month, chef boyardi maybe once a month, and yes I let them have bars, cereal, ice cream, and even pop tarts. I designate a spot for their snacks and I don't eat it! On good days I will take a 1/4 of poptart, but I weigh it first! :) ** Eat to survive, not survive to eat! Good Luck!

Plan your eating for the day and stick to it. I know everything I will be eating while I'm preparing my breakfast. I know if I get hungry between lunch and dinner I'll be grabbing an apple. By planning ahead and having food and snacks on hand it's easier to not grab something stupid just because I'm hungry.

Yes, I have been through it. I could write a book about it.

Be sure of one thing: there is NOTHING wrong with you. We all struggle.

This may sound crazy, but could you be afraid to lose it because then you will be so scared of gaining it back and feeling like a failure?

Really dig deep and figure out what your emotional "deal" is with those 5 pounds. You will be better able to attack your goal when armed with that information.

Good luck to you.
