What Is up with This Weird Virus?

Ok I'm exhausted! I've been dealing with severe vomitting and diarreha in our house since Sunday. I was the first to have it. It's the strangest virus I've ever had. You do all your vomitting and diarreha and then you feel great like it's a 24 hour bug but no no no it's not after you've been better for about 24 hours it hits you again with a vengence. I was lucky and it only hit me twice. Now my 5 year old has been alot worse. She get's sick on the dot around midnight EVERY night. I sit with her in the bathroom or what not til it's over which can last 2 hours. Then we go back to bed. She wakes up in the A.M feeling great and we start with the brat diet, and I've been extremely cautious of giving her fluids and solids we start out with the few sips every 15 min. and it works great she holds it down. By mid afternoon she's usually begging to go outside and play. I of course have to say no. I continue with the brat diet no real meals. Then in the evening she starts to look and act sick and by midnightish she's vomitting and has diarreha really bad. It's so bad I started putting diapers on her. Anyways she's missed 4 days of school over this. I've had her in the emergency room two nights in a row. Last night we were in the E.R and she was so dehydrated they put a I.V in. They've tested her urine and blood and say it's just a virus. I just can't take much more. I'm sleep deprived and exhausted. Has anyone else experianced this weird virus and if so how long did it last? I thought it's usually 24-72 hours and were on day 4.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I actually think we may finally be over this. I swore up and down I had the noro virus in December same exact symptoms. Only difference this time around was I was starving usually when one is sick they have no appetite and my daughter got it this time and it seems to trick you when it's gone. It is extremely contagious everyone who's had contact with us has gotten it.

I'm glad you are finally over it. I was going to say that it sounded more like food poisoning to me. I had that once and you just get hit with it and then it's out of you from both ends and then you are done. I was wondering if there was something you were having for dinner a couple nights that could have caused it. Bad cheese, milk or meat or something.
Best Wishes,
J.

I know what your going through! My 4 year old got it last Friday! I ended up having to put a pull up on her because she would not be able to make it to the toilet! Poor thing has lost so much weight! I took her to the er as well on Sunday and they just said it's a virus. She today is still having diarreah. No more vomit as of Tuesday. But then my 11 mo old got it on Tue! I feel like all I have been doing is wiping poopy bottoms for the past week! I have tried to stick with the brat diet as well but my 4 year old is so hungery in the afternoons that I give her what ever she wants. Not the best idea, but I feel so bad because she is so hungery. I wish you luck I know a lot of kids are going through the same thing! Good luck I hope you get rest soon. I just hope I don't get it next:)

We just got it here in our household. My daughter woke up earlier during the night with horrible tummy pains and gas, the she puked all over. It explains why yesterday I woke up to puke, and felt instantly better. (I thought I had some food posioning or something.) My parents are now sick as of a couple hours ago. My daughter puked all over, then started singing a song. She has no fever, nothing. I'm hoping it doesn't come back.

Good Luck!

Most viruses run a course of 7 days. If you are on day 4 with her, you're on the "downhill" side. I always push fluids no matter what when someone in my family has a virus... keeps your body hydrated (even if vomiting... every little bit helps) and helps "flush" it out. That's my thinking anyway. Haven't had it and hope we don't have to worry about it... sounds absolutely horrible!

Good luck... hang in there! *hugs*

Good Luck!!! My son had this on two separate occasions between the end of January and the end of February. The first time the diarrhea lasted 2 1/2 weeks and the 2nd time he was over it in a little under a week. It sucks and there is really nothing you can do about it.

my 1 yr old had it for over a week. That was in September, it's been going around all winter. My doctor said some kids have it for even longer! But it seems to me the younger and/or weaker your immune system is it last longer. hang it there, I know how horrible it is. We actually got it twice this winter, but second time around was better-only lasted a few days (off and on, it is so weird) Doctor also said you are contagious until you have been diarrhea free for 24 hours.
Feel better soon!

Hi, B.!

We got something similar a few weeks back. My daughter was first. She started with diarrhea on a Tuesday afternoon. She never threw up. My son started on Wednesday with vomitting and diarrhea. I started on Thursday with both as well. My daughter acted OK, but wouldn't eat and continued to have diarrhea until about Saturday, when she started to feel better. (5 days) My son got hit pretty bad. He didn't start to feel better until about Monday. (6 days) I was also Monday. (5 days) It was wierd - we'd feel better then worse then better then worse. For the first couple days, we all just laid on the couch and didn't move an inch. But the diarrhea was terrible. It was nearly water and just wouldn't stop. But don't fret - you will get better. Sounds like you're getting near the end. I'd say 5 or 6 days ought to do it.

Good luck!

Awhile back my fiance was hit with a virus and I can't think of the name of it but they said people got it on cruise ships. And being that we live in MN i know darn well that ain't where he got it. He was fine during the day but at night he was sitting on the toilet with diahrea holding a trash can in his lap to vomit in. (I know bad sight) but anyways he had it for 2 weeks and I caught it on his 4th day and I was down and out literally immobile for 6 days afraid to eat all I could drink was warm water with a chicken Buillon(sp?) cube in it. That was what I lived on for days. I think they called it the norwalk virus. My daughter got it on my fiance's day 7 and she was sick for about 5 days with her I pushed pedialyte and also the chicken buillon warm water and had it in a sippy for her at her side 24/7 we had jammy/movie days to keep her layin down. She got to watch whatever movies she wanted all day. And that seemed to help. Also had an ice cream pail next to her 24/7. This is what it sounds like to me. Just push liquids as much as possible during the day when she is feeling well. Then at night it shouldn't dehydrate her so bad. I know the feeling. Hang in there..

Yuck!! I'm not sure I can offer anything helpful but goodness I hope your daughter is well soon and it doesn't hit you any more!

As far as I'm concerned vomiting is the worst..I'd rather have just about anything than that (but then again I've got a phobia..heh).

Get well soon! :D
