I did not want to deal with the transition from little potty chair to the toilet and opted for the style that fits over the seat...it has two steps and handles (can't remember the exaxt name, One step Ahead carries them,,so do others online, there is a regular and padded seat version)...a little awkward at first for the child to get on but worked great....no cleaning little potty pots and they get to the idea of using the big potty from the start...it really is what will work for your house, child, lifestyle (some like the portable aspect of a small potty...they take it to whatever room etc...) I just found this easy and had heard many say they couldn't get their child to use the big potty once they got used to the little one.

Good luck!

We'll probably start our 2 year old son soon...he's already gone a few times on the potty seat we're just waiting for him to show real interest...I found with my DD it was easiest to go with her taking the lead.

I've seen those fancy ones that play music when the child goes potty and everything but I've always used a basic, traditional potty chair. A simple chair where you have to empty out the pot. I didn't opt for the fancy ones because I knew that sooner or later all those knooks and crannies would get messy. I found that rewarding my daughter with stickers and things were just as fine as a singing potty chair :) I would say Walmart or Target still carries basic potty chairs.

For boys the Bjorn potty is the best--the one that is 2 pieces. The shape of it helps them from peeing on the floor!!! I am working on potty training 3 boys and of all my potty chairs--it is the best!

I like the kind that doubles as a little step-stool. The tops goes down and then it's a little step - and my daughter still uses it as a step to stand up at the sink brushing her teeth, washing hands etc., even though she only uses the big potty now.

I also have the one that plays music and it;s a pain, for one thing I can't tell you the number of times I walked by it late at night using the bathroom myself and the thing would start playing - also harder to empty.

good luck
