dawn and HOT water
A friend of mine just moved to a rental property. The stove/vent-a-hood/knobs haven't been degreased/cleaned in years. We're afraid that the tougher cleansers would perhaps harm the stainless or the electronic components of the buttons that work the vent and stove. I've never dealt with this type of build-up so I'm not sure what to tell her. Anyone know what we could use? Thanks!!
dawn and HOT water
Dawn is my go to supply when it comes to grease. I'd probably try that with a soft cloth or sponge. You just don't want anything abrasive because that'll leave marks.
If Arm & Hammer doesn't work as suggested by Ruby, try soaking any dials that can come off in old-fashioned Lestoil & water (put in a bucket or pan outside - there's a strong odor but it's a good de-greaser). Use the rest of the solution to wipe down what's not removable. This is what the dishwasher repair guy told me to use to clean out the build-up of soap & grease residue in the dishwasher. I soaked the removable parts and wiped down the rest.
Arm & Hammer's Super Washing Soda, very gentle and melts grease and dirt like magic.
I use Comet and a wash cloth, not a scrubby thing. The Comet cuts the grease and shines the metal up nicely. Just don't push on it too hard. Just normal movement.
Well, they do sell stainless steel cleaners, I have a few at home, one of which is like a thick lotion, but if it's grease, I am afraid those cleaners will be too mild. Can she remove the knobs and put them to soak?
