What Is Normal Time for a Child to Show Regressions After a New Baby?

My 4 yr old daughter has been potty trained since she was 3. Never any accidents during the day. Well I had my second daughter in July and I have heard that if my oldest daughter would regress it would happen within a month but it being 9 months later it seems something must be going on. She is peeing and pooping in her panties atleast once a day for the past month. She will only go into one of the three potties we have. She hates the electronic flushers and will not go into any stall with out me. She is acting like somthing scared her while pottie training but she says nothing about any particular time. She wont go into a tiolet if there is something in it or even if there is water running along the back of the bowl. I dont know what course of action I should take with her. Does anyone have any suggestions or have dealt with this too?

What can I do next?

My dd did something like this around that age. She is an only child so it had nothing to do with regression after a new baby. What we finally figured out was....she flushed the potty at my mom's one day and it overflowed. It freaked her out. We got her to going on the potty again but it was 2-3 YEARS before she would flush or even be in the room/stall when you flushed the toilet. Maybe something like that happened to her?

It doesn't sound like a regression due to the new baby, but more of a repsonse to a fear. As their imagination develops at this age, so do their fears. Perhaps she's had a bad dream? Perhaps she saw something on tv that scared her about toliets? Is she getting enough rest? I would be calm and patient with this one and try to figure out why she's scared of using the potty. In the meantime, continue the expectation that she goes in the potty - just be with her, talking to her, reassuring and praising her all the while. Please let us know if you figure it out! Good luck!

Sounds like a fear to me too. I have 3 kids and we've dealt with regression and what you described just doesn't fit. If you are unable to pinpoint the actual fear, I'd just be as understanding as possible. Maybe even allow her to wear pull ups if she wants.

My oldest developed a big fear about public bathrooms due to the automatic flushers and it was a big ordeal for at least a year or two. He'd have accidents because he refused to use public restrooms.
