It's used in cooking. You use it to stabilize egg whites when you make angel food cakes, meringues, etc. You can also use it to make your own baking powder.
You'll find it in the spice aisle at the grocery store.
I offered to make play-doh for my daughter's preschool class, but the recipe calls for 6 tablespoons of Cream of Tartar. I have no idea what this is and I asked the guy at the grocery store and he directed me to the soup section, but I didn't see it there.
Anyone know what the heck this stuff is? Thanks!

It's in with the spices. Good luck with the play-doh!
I am not sure completely "what it is" but I think it is a thickener. It is used in many recipes. You can usually find it in the spice section.
Cream of Tartar is made from grapes when turning it into wine and is an acid salt. It is used in cooking as a thickener. It can be pricey I must warn you, but it can be found in the cooking aisle with other herbs and spices.
it is in the spice aisle......it's white and powdery.
