What Is Business Casual?

Okay fashionistas, I need some advice. I have an event this weekend requires business casual attire. Normally, I would assume that means slacks and a nice shirt. But a majority of the event is outdoors and it is going to be 95 degrees out - slacks sound like a nightmare! What''s a good alternative?

What can I do next?

I would say to stick with something knee length and tailored. I'm not sure what you will be doing outside, but if you are going to be actively participating in group activities, I suggest

flat front capris:

or a skort:

I would stay away from dresses or skirts because you never know if there might be a breeze in Texas.

As for shirts, try to find shirts made out of breathable fabric like cotton with 3/4 length or short sleeves:

Wear mininal jewelry and sensible shoes!!!

Ok... so I went shopping for you! Thanks for the morning break! :) Have fun!

Business casual - think Donald Trump's the Apprentice TV Show. You could wear a tailored dress (no sundresses),or a knee-length skirt and lovely shirt. I would avoid sleeveless unless you carry a light wrap. Wear heels and nice accessories to dress everything up.

Since it is outside, I would wear a cool and comfy dress.

I would probably go sleeveless but not sun dress to keep it a little more business like.

Another option is a cute skirt. My business clothes are about 2-3" above the knee. I won't wear anything below the knee.

My "fun" clothes would be inappropriate...obviously too short and too fitted.

cute, thin skirt that is right above the knee, a comfy flowy top that barely has sleeves (light color to reflect light), comfy sandles, and hair up in a clip.

have fun!

You could do a short-sleeved cotton dress--nothing too sexy or fancy, but something nice and definitely cooler than slacks. You could also do capris or knee-length shorts, as long as they're not denim, with a nice top and stylish by not flashy jewelry. Or a relatively casual skirt, like a linen or khaki or knit. Of course, it depends upon the exact nature of the event. I generally take "business casual" to mean "not jeans, but not super fancy." Also think about who your "audience" will be, whether you want to portray yourself as more serious, or more fun. Enjoy yourself!

the uniform to fall back on is khaki pants and a cute short sleeved top. but to fancy it up a bit, i'd go with a knee length skirt (not tight but fitted not flared in case of wind) and the same top. sandals are a maybe, but i'd stick to casual flats or low heels since you will be outside. heels tend to sink into the ground.
