What Is an Afternoon Equivalent to Donuts?

I teach remedial math classes, and traditionally students don't always show up to review days ... hmmmm. Last year I bribed them to come to review days by bringing in donuts and juice. (Totally ok, I checked.) But this semester I have an afternoon class. I can't afford to buy pizza, so what could I bribe them with? Bagels and cream cheese?

ETA - Sorry, forgot to mention I teach college students.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yep, I think I'm going with donuts! They were so easy last May. Now I just have to make sure I don't eat too many :-)

What's wrong with donuts in the afternoon?? I'd eat donuts any time of day...it is morning somewhere! (a donut take on "its 5:00 somewhere) :-)

I bet some of those kids wish they didn't get out of bed until noon anyway, so donuts can work!! :-D

Anytime is a good time for donuts as far as I am concerned, but maybe you could consider brownies? If something ever happened to DH and I got married again, I would serve brownies instead of wedding cake!

Cupcakes!

But many schools won't allow cupcakes, so try cookies (oatmeal) and milk!

Donuts know no time boundaries! Lol

But cupcakes or muffins might be a good sunstitute.
Or giant cookies!
Or brownies!
Or ice cream sandwiches!

(Heads to kitchen to get a snack...)

Donuts are great any time of day!
Other ideas:
- Small bags of chips
- Individual containers of cheese and crackers
- sliced fruit with caramel dip
- mini muffins
- cookies
- mini cupcakes
- pretzels

Like someone else mentioned, go to Sam's or Costco and see what comes in those huge packages of prepackaged snacks!

Just get something from Costco, they have huge bulk sized containers of snacks. Anything from candy to granola bars to pretzels to cheese puffs etc.
You don't have to give them a "meal."
Just a snack. At most.
Or get boxes of Capri Sun. These are often on sale.
I would not get, perishable type foods. You would have to keep it refrigerated.
Just don't get anything with nuts... as schools often have a "no nuts" policy.

Also, if the kids don't show up, then how does the school... track them and their progress? Are their parents told that their kid did not show up?

If you are talking about 11-13, or even 14, then cupcakes would do the trick. Older, I would stick to donuts or cupcakes. Younger cookies would probably work great.

My 13 yr olds would definitely love the cupcakes. My husband's niece is 16 and loves "awesome" cookies. By that she means not oreos or oatmeal.

Donuts are always a good bribe for kids, any time, any age.

Costco sells great muffins, or brownies.

Cut up fruits are always appreciated!

Have fun reviewing!

Heck, for me, donuts are good 24/7. What age are the students? If they are not coffee age, then perhaps soda in the afternoons?

Cupcakes are very messy with most kids. Cookies can be messy but are good. Brownies mentioned are good but I agree with the others. Donuts are good morning, noon, night and before bed. :-)

You could mix it up:
-donuts
-donut holes
-brownie bite
-lchoc chip cookies
-mini scones (make yourself)
-power bars (buy them by the box, least inexpensive kind
-OJ
-do you have cheap pizza nearby? We have a one for $5/pepperoni pizza
Just cut their slices in half. (bring your own pizza cutter)
-cut up veggies (carrots, celery) w/ranch & some french bread
-sliced mini bread, sliced cheese & salami
-yogurt & granola

Just do yourself & get creative
