Good day~ My husband and I are just starting to talk about a toddler bed. Our only daughter will be turning two in November. Lots of kids I know her age are already in a big girl bed. Am I keeping her in the crib to long? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

My son stopped sleeping in his crib at 17 months old- he had started going to daycare where they took naps on mats and he never wanted to go back in his crib! We did do a toddler bed for a couple of years before putting him in a twin bed - he had a small room and we thought he needed more play space. We did gate the doors of the room so he couldn't get out by himself during the night and that was mostly for my peace of mind!

Mommy will know when its time, especially when you catch her climbing out of the crib. My son was 1 and he went into the toddler bed because he kept climbing out, then by time he was 2 he was in a big boy bed except it was just the the twin size on the floor and now for the last year been in a twin with the frame under it.

I did it in steps when he showed he was ready, started going potty, talking more, grew with him

my son was a little over 2 and my daughter was about 2 1/2. It just depends on your little one. Neither of mine ever climbed out of their crib, so that wasn't an issue for us. We did try to make it exciting by buying a "race car" bed for my boy and letting my daughter pick her bed from the store. It made it special and exciting for the transition. Good luck!

Each of my older children were moved into a toddler bed between 18 & 24 months. You just have to talk to her about it and introduce her to the idea. Also, be sure to include her in the choosing. Good luck!

Make it a GREAT day!

If you are trying for # 2 i would take her shopping for a new bed. Let her pick it out on a daughter & mommy date. While daddy is at home packing away the crib. She can help put it together and put her new bedding on it. It could be such andexciting time!!i believe that once you make a decision you should stick with it. It is not good to go back and forth. So if mom and dad are not ready to commit to that kind of change then wait till you are sure. Good luck and god bless

You don't have to move her to a twin bed if your not ready but most kids around the age of 2 transition no problem. My daughter was around 19 months and I was getting ready to make the transition for her to be in a new room in a day bed because baby #2 was coming in a couple of months. I had the room and bed ready and set up but I still hadn't put her in it cause I was worried how she would do. I started telling her this is going to be your new bed and new room soon. So one day she just said "I want to sleep in that new bed" and that was it. no problems at all, she never went back to the crib. So I think that as long as you wait until your child is ready they will like the idea of a new bed. It might be a good Idea to buy one and set it up, then see what happens.

My kids always liked the snuggly feeling of being in their cribs. I kept them there til they were 3. Then they were old enough to reason with about getting into and staying in bed. I also could skip the toddler bed stage and go straight to twin beds. It worked great for mine! (I'm on #4 now.)
