One year my husband needed a new wallet and I got him one and stuffed it with gift cards to his favorite places. Lots of food places but a few stores. It was a hit.
Hi all,
Hubby is not easy to buy for. We don't really "need" anything. We're saving as much as we can cause he starts med school this summer. He's working in NYC (6weeks there, 2 weeks here) so nothing to carry back and forth, really. Any ideas for small somethings that a guy would like? He's a computer guy, likes nicer food, eats vegetarian. I'm sure I'll find something, but would love ideas.
Thanks!

A stethoscope. I did this for my future DIL just before she began med school. I spent $100-125 and it turned out to be just what the school required. You call the school and ask brand/style, etc.... to be safe.
If that is too much money, does he have a favorite sports team? I bought my husband one of those poly sports shirts with his fav team for Fathers Day and he loves it. $40-$80
If still too pricey how about a coupon for a night at home alone with you. Farm the kids out and make him dinner by candlelight, etc....
what about a really good suitcase or travel bag?
I always go to this blog for ideas for my husband:

Will he need a stethoscope? A Littman is expensive, but he will need one. Perhaps you could give him a "gift certificate" with a picture of a Littman on it. Be creative about it. He'll get a kick out of it and appreciate the fact that he will get to pick the actual one. You'll get credit for your idea, too.

A small vegan cook book for one, so he can prepare yummy eats when he is in NY?
Sounds like you have a guy who is going to get very little sleep, but when he gets it, will need a really great pillow, or two. Why don't you invest in two very good pillows. When he is sleeping away from you, he will still be with you.
One of my favorite things to give my husband is tickets, to a show, concert or sporting event. It's a present and a date night all in one, win win!
My husband and I usually go all out for each other but since $ is an issue this year, we are only getting each other one thing. He really wants the new Batman movie so that's what he's getting. :)
I have started to try and think outside the box for hubby gifts. First off he never wants or needs much. When he does he has a tendency to just get it himself. Or he wants something so specific, I am bound to be exchanging it.
THe year before last, it was a Keurig. He's not a heavy coffee drinker...maybe one cup a week during the winter and rare occasions in the summer. So this one cup maker was a great option for him.
Last year I got a towel warming rack and a huge towel. I made two trips to BEd BAth and Beyond armed with my 20% off coupons. It made the gift rather reasonable. The kids got him a shower radio to go with it. Hubby loves his showers and hates to get out in the cold. The warm towel makes this transition a little more bearable.
I always just ask for a list... then get one - two items from list.
If you are trying to save money do you have to exchange gifts at all? My husband and I have sometimes skipped the gift exchange or gotten a joint/family gift instead (new TV, new video camera, etc.). I like to get people who don't need things stuff they can consume, such as specialty foods, snack foods, a bottle of wine, etc. I've also done a "coupon book" of things to be redeemed later--homemade dinner of choice, movie night to see a movie I wouldn't otherwise want to see, his favorite cake, etc. Photo book of the kids he could bring with him when he travels? Does he need something he can do on the plane? Favorite magazine subscription--online or in print?
And the #1 Answer is................................
Sultry photos of his beloved.
You can do it yourself, print them at a Kodak kiosk at Target and put them in a little tiny "brag book"
And I said sultry not pornography.......

Does he have a kindle or e-reader? I LOVE my kindle - there are often free books or .99 cent books available so even if you have no money you can still have a library full of the classics. I really like the fact that I can have my library on me at all times so even if I have to wait anywhere even for 10-15 minutes I have something to do...
