What Does One Need for a New Baby Born Close to His Sibling?

I had a 5 yr old and a baby. I bought a seat for in the tub for the baby (once he was old enough to sit-up) so that I could bath them both at the same time. It really helped since my older kid loved to bath with the baby. Enjoy the new baby.

It's great that you have registered for a Moby, but you need to be aware that after your baby is six-month-old, you'll have to retire the Moby (the stretchy fabric, while making wrapping easy and comfortable, gets too stretchy with heavier babies.) There are other carriers out there that might help too: I would highly recommend an adjustable pouch (like the ones made by Kangaroo Korner) and a soft structured carrier, like the Ergo or Beco. Pouches are fabulous for newborns, ans I'm still using mine with my 27lbs 16-month-old at times for that quick, hip carry for unpacking groceries, etc. And a soft structured carrier is a godsend for quick, on-and-off carriers, long term carries (b'c of the padded shoulders and waist support), and for general comfort with both light and heavier babies. My boys are 22 months apart. #3 will be 21 months apart. I had a a bunch of new unwatched DVD's. (we don't have cable) This kept the older brother busy while I nursed. Also I had a boppy, extra clothes, burp clothes, wipes, diapers on each level of the house. Then I wasn't constantly running up and down stairs.
I also could not have lived with out my Ergo baby carrier. I had to front carry with the Ergo or sling until the baby got 4 months but after that he went on my back and I could get tons of things done. Grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking etc. was so much easier with 2 hands than with one. I tried many different carriers and I like the ergo the best. Other than that try to rest when they are sleeping. Good luck!

My daughters are 2 yrs apart, and the best thing I recommend you get is a sit-n-stand stroller! They are wonderful, as your 2yr old will need to ride at times, but can stand up or sit when in the stroller. Another idea: if your house is 2 levels, you might want to consider extra bouncy seats or swings (1 for each level), as you'll need a place to put your baby down while caring for your daughter upstairs & downstairs. We used to bring a bouncy seat into our bathroom so my infant could watch big sister get a bath. A double jogging stroller is also great if you exercise regularly. Best wishes!

Not sure if you have anything like this; but the greatest thing I have is a platform that attaches to the back of my stroller (it is universal so it attaches to most all strollers). My 3 year old can stand or there is a little bench that she can sit on. It makes it so convenient because she is at the stage where she wants to walk most of the time but needs breaks. mine are a little closer than yours, and I have the Sit and Stand stroller... LOVE it! it even has a universal bar to attach a baby carrier in front, and the back does have straps when the older child is sitting.
I had looked into getting one of those things that attach to the back of any stroller, but at the time at least, they were like $80... and I got a brand new stroller for $120 at target. sit n stands are also always on craigslist, if you want to save some money... but I have totally gotten my money's worth out of mine. i still use it, and the girls are 3 (next week!) and 4.

I see you are having a boy this time... I would register for boy clothes and any other boyish type things.

there are always new toys and gadgets coming out... so you could register for something that wasn't avaliable 2 years ago, or if you have a bouncer or something that you didn't like, you could pick out something different, now that you are an experienced mommy!

I would heartily recommend a harness--they make cute ones that look like an animal (monkey, puppy, etc.)and serve as a backpack for the child--for your toddler, especially in public crowded situations. My cousin has one for her toddler, and we took him to a national park (Steamtown USA) with very few problems--an adult had the end of his puppy's "tail" whenever he got out of the stroller, and since she started him with the harness from the time he started to walk, he LOVES his harness. He especially enjoyed leading his grandfather around the park!

I'd see if you could "register" with a post-partum doula or nanny service. It would be great to have some help during the transition, esp. so you can spend time with your toddler as she adjusts to being a big sister.

How about a double stroller? I got a great one from "One Step Ahead" that converts into a sit and stand. I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old and it works great! Holds a baby carrier too. I don't know what dd and ds mean but if one is a girl and one a boy, register for the opposit color stuff. Think about what you are still using for your first that you started using when they were born. If you used a Boppy, consider a new one. Mine is flat as a pancake and was a little difficult to use when my second was new born. I actually still considering getting a new one becasue it is so flat! Good luck. -N. J

Disposable items like diapers, wipes, bath items, room decor. If your toddler will be using his crib mattress/sheets then extra crib sheets. Double stroller, maybe a backpack type diaper bag. This is more for your toddler...some people don't like those "harness" type contraptions, but I used mine on occassion when I had both kids with me, a double stroller wasn't the best option and I needed to have a hold of my toddler.

I'm expecting my second boy, who will be born when ds is almost 2 also. A lot of things I have for him were hand me downs and/or are totally worn out, or I got rid of. You'll always need diapers, wipes, socks, onesies, burp cloths. I also need a double stroller, a new high chair, car seat and swing (I hated my ds's so much I sold it). His high chair is especially worn out. Its a nice position to be in, since you have almost everything, you can stock up on diapers, toilletries, etc. Good luck!
