What Do You Think of the Name Adalie Marie?

I like Adalie Marie. I have an unusual name. I often have to spell both names for people they have trouble with M. because they've heard Marta and Martha. Also the T and D sound similar.

I don't mine spelling my name her pronouncing it more clearly. As a child my name made me feel special. I liked the extra attention, too.

I'm If you're concerned about pronunciation just put an extra d in it. I immediately said the name as you illustrated it. I doubt anyone would have difficulty with it. I also like the possible nickname of Addy.

I think people will say Add-a-lie (last syllable rhymes with 'why').
Adalee might work a little better.

it's cute. if you get irritated at having to spell it for people endlessly, or you're going to get huffy if people pronounce it incorrectly, then don't.
far too many people are jumping on the 'unique' bandwagon and then get 50 shades of butthurt at coping with the situation they deliberately created.

I would pronounce her name correctly if it was me. I think it looks like it would sound as you intend for it to be pronounced. I also think it's pretty.

Now my husband's name is a traditional biblical name but spelled so that it's hard to spell or pronounce for some people. It's a fine name and suits him, but sometimes I think he wishes his parents had named him something simpler. Not a big deal.

What I would suggest is what we did. When we were trying out names, we would use the name in conversation, around the dinner table (so "Adalie, please pass the peas"). I would even try yelling "Adaliieeeeee" out your back door so you can see how it will sound in all circumstances. Your neighbors might find it odd but we ruled out a few that way. Our older kids got in on it when we had the younger ones and it's like a trial run.

It is a cute name. However, she will have to pronounce and spell it ALL the time for people. If you are ok with constantly correcting people, pronouncing and spelling then go for it. You know from the get go that this will be with her the rest of her life. If you stick with it, east spell it the way you want it pronounced.

When we chose our daughter's name, we thought about her name long term, as a baby, child, student, career and old lady.

Some names that are really cute when children a young do not come across professionally in the workforce when they are adults.

It is a very pretty name, but she will have to spend the rest of her life correcting people on how to spell and pronounce her name.

My name is very unusual, also.... as a child, I got teased about it..... that does get a bit old after a while.... I've spent my life having to spell, and respell, and re-correct people on my name.

I think it is cute, and I personally would have had no problems pronouncing it from the way it is spelled, it is phonetically correct ( I have seen names that were not). If you love it then it is the right name :)

If you like it, go for it. Yes, it may be misspelled or mispronounced, but it's not the end of the world. My name gets misspelled all the time. I've even had people mispronounce E.. (???) Both my kids have their names misspelled and mispronounced. All. The. Time. And don't even get me started on how often my husband's nickname is mispronounced and misspelled. People don't even attempt his full name. But, I wouldn't change any of our names for the world. If you love it, that is all that matters.

It's lovely. Does it have special significance? If it's a family name or one that belongs to someone you admire, that's even nicer.

She will need to learn to correct people and help them spell it, but many people have to do this. There are so many exotic and ethnic names today, and it's nice that people aren't anglicizing them all the time to make them simpler or more "acceptable" - so go with what you like.

My only other advice to parents is to always spell out their child's prospective initials to be sure it doesn't spell a silly or offensive word. I have a few friends who are stuck with icky monograms because someone didn't think ahead. But if your child will be A.M.S., that's fine!

Think of your daughter's future...

how many times will she have to correct the person pronouncing her name?
How many times will people misspell it?

When you go on vacation? You'll not be able to find a "adalie" souvenir, I don't think. Do you think her feelings will be hurt when she can't find her name anywhere?

You like the name - great! it's your kid. Think of her future and what she will go through in correcting and pronouncing it for people....

I think it's pretty and I was able to pronounce it exactly how you would want to. I assumed that was the pronunciation.

My name is K.. Easy enough. But even with that common name, I STILL have to say "with two 'i's"...with a "K" not "Ch"..."K., not Christine", almost every time someone has to write down my name. It's really not such a hardship to do so.

I wouldn't have known how pronounce it until you told me. How about Adelaide? It is more easily recognizable.

Well, I'd call her adda lie since it spells lie on the end. I'd think adda-lie muh-ree.

It's pretty but consider the spelling. If it's a combination of special names you like then spell it like you want.

It's lovely. My brain pronounced it as ah-DAHL-ee, but perhaps that is because I assumed it was Indian or ethnic in some way. Would two d's make it easier to read? Addalie is a French name apparently, but I'm not sure how that is pronounced.

I think anytime you have to put the pronunciation, you need to think really hard about whether you want to be constantly correcting people, and whether you want your daughter to have to spend her entire life correcting people and spelling her name. It sounds pretty, but I think it is a hard name to say and to spell.

You could use Addie, Adele, Leah, or Arabelle and they would be a lot easier without being super common.

I would definitely pick something people can pronounce easily, otherwise she will spend her entire life correcting people and spelling it. How about Natalie?
