I am wondering if anyone's children attend either Odgen Elementary on Walton or Lincoln Elementary in Lincoln Park. I am particularly intereted in the Kindergarten program. My husband and I want to send our kids to a neighborhoodl public school in the city. Any thoughts?

I'm sure things have changed in the past 15 years, but I attended Ogden elementary from 6-8 grade in the IB program (mentioned by others) and it was a great school and program. My brother was also there from 3-8 grade after I got in. We both had very successful public school experiences at Ogden. It and Lincoln are the only 2 in the city with the IB prep program for 6-8 grade. Ogden has good in school service programs, or at least did when I was there, as well.

HI. I have 2 boys that go to Lincoln. They are now in 4th and 5th grades, but started at Lincoln in Kindergarten. We have loved the school so far! The principal is great, the teachers are great and the neighborhood is great. We mainly chose the school based on test scores as well as it is one of only two schools that have the pre IB program in Chicago for 6th grade and up. Any other questions, just ask. Good luck, C.(Lincoln Park)

P.,
We live in the Lincoln school district and have heard nothing but positive things about Lincoln. I took my son there for speech therapy for 3 months and was very happy with the staff and the results. We are planning to send our son there for kindergarten for the 2007 school year. I don't know how many kids they take out of the district or what the process is. We are also applying to LaSalle Language Academy which is a magnet school. Hope that helps.

They are similar in the fact that I believe (don't quote me on Ogden, but it's true for Lincoln) they both have an International program which kids test into at 5th grade (for 6-8). The program means they're learning in an internationally credited curriculum.

Lincoln (I'm in the district, so I know more about it) has a French program where Frech-speaking people can send their kids and have them immersed in French and then matriculate with the other kids. They pay more for this program. But, the only unfortunate thing is that it means those not in the French program (which is mostly children of ex-pats as it's truly a French immersion) can only have a half-day kindergarten. Of course, EVERYTHING is subject to change.

All I can say is that I will be sending my son to Lincoln. I live nextdoor to LaSalle, but it's difficult to get into. And as far as I know, Lincoln is equal -- if not exceeding -- LaSalle. I am happy to be sending my son to Lincoln one day. He's only 14 months old, but we moved to this district for the school!
