Gift cards.
My SIL is a teacher and she has enough lotions, gels and candles to open up a gift shop.
Teachers spend a lot of their own money on school supplies, etc. A give a gift card that is good for anywhere.
I know it's still 2 months away, but so far I only managed to give to my sons teachers twice (and my oldest is in 4th now)....
I can never figure out what to give other than gift cards....
Any ideas ???

Do all of the teachers a favor and stick to gift cards...there are no ornaments, lotion or candles that they need! LOL
As a teacher of 19 years, I can tell you that ANY gift is appreciated. The fact that someone went out of their way to pick up something is very meaningful.
Personally, my favorites are Borders and Starbucks gift cards. I love books and who doesn't enjoy the occasional morning treat.
But, the best gift of all is the gift of words. A card with a note expressing how much I meant to someone's child, how I helped them, whatever, still makes me cry, even after all these years. I have nearly 10 scrapbooks filled with every note a parent or student gave me. I even save the nasty-grams because they're meaningful, too...and help me stay humble.
So, never feel bad about a gift. Any expression of appreciation is wonderful.
We LOVE gift cards!! They are our favorite gift! Really, we appreciate anything, but don't stress trying to find something cute or practical. Gift cards are perfect.
I know some may think it tacky but I give good old cash....
I personally think there is only so much body cream you can receive (year after year!!) before they must just come to dread it. I always put a nice note and tell them how grateful we are for their work/service.
I just think they should get what THEY want..... but that's me and I'm only 2 years into this whole School thing!! I'm sure any gift is appreciated.
I used to be a teacher and there is nothing better than a gift card, in my opinion.
I do not give them anything but a card and maybe a small box of chocolates or something along those lines. but really we save our gifts for teacher appreciation day.
to me christmas is for family.
I keep seeing these questions and I am a bit confused. Are you supposed to get your kid's teachers Christmas presents every year? No one did that when I was a kid.
My husband is a teacher and we LOVE the gift cards. You really just can't go wrong with them.
Gift cards for sure! Maybe a teacher note pad and colored pens or chocolates. Teachers spend their own money on stamp pads and markers, stickers, etc. so gift cards for that stuff is thoughtful too. You are sweet to wonder and ask.
I like to give my son's teachers something they can use for the classroom. I have several teacher friends who say most of what they get they do not use, and this will also benefit my son. :) This year we are giving his teacher a few Barefoot Books. They have some great sing-a-longs for younger kids (my son is 3) and great story books for the older kids. They are having free shipping on orders over $60 right now, which is a great deal. Lots of books are also on sale. www.ReadandGrow.com

I am a teacher also, usually kids get us mugs with candy or hot chocolate, lotions, even flowers once. They are small and simple, but its the thought that counts more than anything. I love it when kids make cards personally :)
I agree, something for the classroom. I heard one friend gave a simple ream of cardstock paper wrapped with a bow and $5 to starbucks. Books for the class, etc.
I did comfy cozy socks from Old NAVY along with a nice smelling lotion she loved it that was last year in kindergarten she is a little younger than I so I went off that...Now this year the teacher isn't old but well you get the hint so I think i'm going to have to go with a gift card to Bath & Body works if unable to find out what she likes such as coffee, frangrances, candles, but I do know she loves the school supply store...It isn't too far away...
Mom's it is a gift of appreciation it doesn't have to be to top off the other parent it can be a hand made card from their student no you don't have to give a gift but it sure is a thoughtful idea to give istead of to receive & warms the hearts of our young children...I love the post from Kristina M to me christmas is for family.
OK I have my kids pick out a picture frame & I try and stay under $10.00 they love being able to pick it out & I have them pay $1.00 out of their gift giving allowance fund. Then we remove the "picture" that is inside it it & my child draws a picture to put in its place. I write on it somewhere, thanks for making "Katy's" 1st grade year so great! She made this for you to enjoy until you can find just the right photo for this frame! I find everyone can use a cute photo frame & there is personilization, but also clear expectations for them to use the frame as they see fit. Hope this helps.
I used to be a high school teacher and there are two gifts that I treasured the most:
(1) A letter from the parent or child saying how much they appreciated what I did for them as a teacher. I still have every single one of those. They still carry me through the rough days as a teacher (college now). Seriously, there is nothing you can buy that's better.
(2) Homemade treats or snacks, especially something that is a specialty from your native land. Teachers are overwhelmingly busy at the end of the semester with extra activities and grade reports. Our own Christmas preparations often do not begin until school is out for the break. I greatly appreciated plates of cookies, loaves of banana bread, egg rolls from a Chinese family, tamales from a Mexican family, trail mix, etc.
It's touching to get mugs, candles, lotion, ornaments, etc. However, teachers get a lot of those, often more than can be used. Gift cards are very nice, unless they are not enough to buy something from that business. I sometimes got $5 gift cards to places I wouldn't have ordinarily gone, and had to pay another $10 to use them.
Don't forget your children's junior high and high school teachers, the music teacher, P.E. teacher, school nurse, custodian, etc. A small remembrance for them is appreciated all the more, because they are so infrequently included in the gift giving.
My junior high age son is embarrassed to bring gifts to his teachers (he's also embarrassed for anyone to see that he has parents, ha!), so I put the gifts straight into their boxes myself.
I always gave baked goods to my children's teachers. Christmas is a busy time and they always seemed to enjoy having something extra to serve. Besides, they get all these ornaments, notepads and mugs and a body can only use so much of that stuff.
last year we went all out for my kids' teacher. but she was one of the kind, and we just felt it in our hearts that she was most deserving. she was soo appreciative.
this year, i have two teachers, for which so far, we don't have much of an opinion. so i am debating what we should get them. maybe a box of chocolates.
I found someone here in McKinney that makes personalized clipboards with the school info, teachers name, etc. that I'm having made this year. Only $14 which is a bargain after some of the gifts I've purchased in the past! If you'd like the email address let me now!

Teacher's are appreciative of anything that the children give them. I have given homemade gifts of ornaments or notepads and I've been told by many teachers that they appreciate notes from the kids with memories that they have or a picture they have drawn. I have also given Bath and Body Works items such as the anti-bacterial items or the travel size lotion, body spray and shower gel. One of the favorite items I gave out to coaches and teachers was a movie night kit - it would have a microwave popcorn and a gift card for Blockbuster. This is especially good for male teachers since the other ideas are more feminine. Last year I got mugs from Sams - there were 4 of them in the package and it had candy, hot chocolate mix and the mug in a cellophane wrapper. This took care of 4 teachers and they were really happy with it. I love shopping for teachers because they are so happy to be remembered and they deserve a little gift from our kids.
