What Do You Drink When You Hate Water?

I've never been a water drinker. In fact, I really hate water. I usually drink just juice or crystal light. I was wondering if these things were safe to drink throughout the entire pregnancy or if there were some other things that could make water bearable to drink? I know they say it's really important you drink lots of water, but water actually makes my stomach queezy. What should I do? And is the artifical sweetner in crystal light going to hurt my baby?

What can I do next?

G.,

Pregnant or not, you really should be drinking water. Artificial sweetners aren't good for anyone, period.

That being said. Have you tried squeezing fresh lemon, lime or both in to your water? Have you tried ice cold and or room temp? I for one LOVE ice water if I have fresh squeezed lemon or lime in it, otherwise I love room temp water. You could even squeeze orange, grapefruit, whatever flavor you like.

Now an alternative, or I should say, something to have in conjunction with water that is good for you, Vitalyte http://www.vitalyte.com/. You can find it at REI or most running stores. If you absolutely can't stomach water than add a little Vitalyte to your water, just to flavor it, plus you'd receive a few other benefits but really plain ol' water would be best.

Congrats on your pregnancy,
M.

If you are not hydrated enough, it can bring on cramping/contractions... per prenatal info. of my Doctor.
AND, really take your pre-natal vitamins.... and down it with water. Just imagine something pleasant while you are drinking... :)

Water is a "nutrient" and especially when you are pregnant.

Ditto what Michele S. said.

All the best,
Susan

My doctor told me it was ok to drink drinks sweetened with splenda. I myself hate water and only drink it with crystal light as well, i love them if it was not for them i would go a month without water. If that is the only way to get water than you have to drink them. People do drugs their whole pregnancy and kids still come out ok. I really doubt that drinking crystal light is going to have much of an effect, ask you doctor if in doubt. Yes of course their are studies to read on all of this but you must assess the risks, I took 1000 mg ibuprophen for a hurt shoulder the 1st couple months of my pregnancy because I did not know I was preggo and my little girl is fine, I told my doctor and she said not to worry as long as I stopped talking it which I did. Ask your doctor and they will tell you the risks.

Hi
Try adding a little bit of juice to the water, to give it some flavor. Start with half juice and half water. Then gradually reduce the amount of juice in the water as you get used to it. You could also add a little bit of tang.
Good luck

Same here. Throughout my pregnancy I knew I needed to stay hydrated, so I drank lots of Crystal Light. It wasn't until later I realized that it had that aspartame stuff and probably wasn't good for me. I stopped drinking it as often after I had the baby since I am still breastfeeding.

I liked to add some fresh lemon juice. That helped out a bit.

Better safe than sorry, so I don't recommend too many artificial sweeteners. But if it were to make you feel better. I literally drank glasses of Crystal Light every day throughout my entire pregnancy. My baby is fine.

My OBGYN advised me that if I had a shadow of a doubt, to not do it. I have an adverse reaction to artificial sweetners, and get terrible migrane headaches. My body just doesn't process it, and therefore the reaction is not positive.

I'm not a huge fan of water, but your baby needs it. I agree with Susan and Michelle, and the Vitalyte stuff is awesome!

Just make sure you keep your OBGYN in the loop, so everyone is on the same page. Don't be afraid to call with questions...nothing is a stupid question when it comes to your baby.

Cheers,
D.

As far as Crystal Light goes, I think that researchers or the medical community do not have enough information about how artificial sweetners may affect your unborn child in the long term so you may want to steer clear of anything that is "sugar-free" or "lite" during your pregnancy. Plus Crystal Light also has artificial colors in it and I don't think that's good for a fetus as well.

As far as juice goes, it's a better choice but too much may cause you to gain too much weight or send your blood sugar spiraling upward and crashing back down. How about cutting your juice with just plain flat water (tap, filtered or bottled) or sparkling mineral water? Also, you are probably already aware of this but not all juices are created the same. Some juices are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, which makes it like a glorified soda. Look for juices that are labeled 100% juice.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Splenda, Aspartame and others like it are not good for you. The body can't recognize what they are so your brain actually "stores" them. Imagine, chemically produced sweeteners just sitting on your brain...can that be good for you and your baby? Just google splenda and see how much info there is out ther about the negative effects.

Try this: http://liveitdontdiet.isagenix.com/us/en/wantmoreenergy.d... they come in a stick pack - just like crystal light, but these are natural and are AMAZING! My kids love them.
