What Do You Do for Your Perimenopausal Symptoms?

Any (clears throat) older moms out there have perimenopausal symptoms? I realize some younger moms may suffer as well. If you do what do you do if anything to help you?
I'm seeking a more "natural" approach but would like to hear about all of the different way you moms deal with this problem.
My cycles are becoming irregular and I am having hot flashes, nothing like sweats but light flushes throughout the day. Nothing at night so far thank goodness. No real moodiness though I have been having sleeping issues but I'm pretty stressed right now with trying to move from one home to a new one.
I've also heard that women that have a history with PMS tend to have an easier time during this transitional time than women that have no history of PMS. What do you think?

What can I do next?

I actually got NO help from my OB since I am in my 30's....despite the fact that my mom was done with menopause at 37. I ended up finding Chalmers Wellness and he detected and has treated it with natural supplements. I was not having hot flashes but was very irritable, anxious, and had ups and downs (worse than my period or any PMS I had before having kids)....I essentially I was a 'wreck' as Dr. Chalmers said. Now, I am at peace again.......what an answered prayer.

Good luck, it is not fun.

Have you tried Cohosh? Get the book "Wise Woman Herbal for the Menopausal Years". It's out of print so you'll have to look on sites like half.com and Amazon used books.
Also, my mom swears by her Chillow for night time!

It is always best to discuss these issues with your doctor or midwife. Ask about recommendations for symptom relief and alternatives to hormone therapy (I assume that is what you mean by "natural"). If your health care provider is not open to or educated in alternative therapies then you may want to consider finding a new provider that is.
With that said, during my clinical rotations for midwifery school one of the midwives I worked with was quite experienced in dealing with menopausal issues. She often recommended Remifemin as an herbal therapy (it is a black cohosh supplement). For more severe cases she would encourage getting hormone levels tested and recommend bioidentical hormones for any imbalance if the pt was receptive to hormones. I am sorry I do not have any personal advice or experiences to share.
Good luck in your search.

I'm starting this fun adventure too, so I'm curious what others are doing. I started having some hot flashes and night sweats. But the worst thing yet are migraines. I never got them before a couple of weeks ago (right after the hot flashes started). Those really suck!

I seemed to have good luck with progesterone cream; HOWEVER - it makes me break out like crazy so I had to quit using it!

I've read that you should seek professional advice (naturopath, integrative physician, etc.) prior to trying it. I just did a very small amount (purchased over the counter) to see what would happen. My sleep improved, I was less cranky and I felt less "foggy." But again, I got a terrible rash on the area where I applied it (thighs then forearms) so I HAD to stop using it.

Good luck - those symptoms are miserable.
