What Do I Give as an Appreciation Gift?

I found a babysitter for this summer who worked out fabulously for my family. She will not be working for us much longer because she’s a Teacher and will soon return to the classroom. I’ve been trying to think of an appreciation gift to give her on her last day. I’m completely free of creative ideas.
My sister (trying to help me) found a container shaped like an apple, it’s about the size of a large grapefruit, but I have no idea what to fill it with.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I think useful items for the classroom to fill the basket with are always appreciated. You could get some colorful pencils for her classroom, I like the Avon nail files, there is one shaped like a fan that is really handy to keepin a desk, along with a small size of their famous hand cream, skin-soft (no, I am not an avon rep!) that she can use, stickers for the students to be handed out as rewards, and maybe a gift card for her, $5-10.00 to the coffee shop, bookstore, anywhere you think she would like. Use tissue paper to make the apple look really pretty and full, add a nice card made by your kids and it will be a great presentation. Have fun!

I was going to write almost exactly what Meredith wrote until I read her post! I am a teacher currently, and I could not agree more. Candy and other things are nice, but we spend so much of our money on things for our classroom, that a practical gift would be appreciated I'm sure!

Honestly, as a former teacher myself, I would have loved to get school supplies! Especially when it's back to school time! We teachers spend so much of our own money that it's nice to get a break! You could find the nearest teacher store and get her a gift card. You could also find out her favorite restaurants or even grocery store and do gift cards from there. In this economy, I think practicality wins out over cutsie!
