welcome to mamapedia, A. (what an interesting name).

Could be she's allergic to something in her room. Try having her sleep in another room or location and see if that works for her.

If not - have a sleep study done and see what is going on.

What does your Dr say?

I'm going to guess allergies or reflux. If you've started using your heat for the winter that can cause the air to dry out and allergens to fly everywhere. I'd probably start with giving the room a top to bottom deep cleaning including all the stuffed animals. See if that helps. You can also run a humidifier in the room to add some moisture.

For reflux try propping a pillow at an angle under the current pillow so that your 4 yr old isn't sleeping flat. If you see improvement then see the doctor and talk about reflux.

That's strange.
The only thing I can think of is maybe he's allergic to something in his room?
It causes his nose to run and the drainage upsets his stomach?
Can he sleep in another room for a few nights and see if it happens there too?
I'd talk to his doctor about it and then have an allergist test him for allergies.
Check his room for mold too because mold can be nasty and dangerous.

We had a family on the block whose house had toxic mold.
The kids were vomiting blood - and it cleared when they left the house.
They ultimately had to live in a trailer on their property while they built a new home and then demolished and burn the old home and they are all fine now.

My allergic child would feel badly at night. It's like it caught up with him. Everything would drain once he was laying down. Not so much body aches - but head ache, sore throat etc. sometimes - especially before he has his adenoids out.

I also had another one who had sinusitis or just extra whatever that is - and it would drain at night, and another who had post nasal drip at night - no signs whatsoever during the day. As soon as they lay down at night - it would collect in their throats - little cough, sore throat and it can lead to tummy upset - if it drained.

Has your child had a slight runny nose or stuffy nose?

I'd take her/him in to the pediatrician if I were you. It could be the sign of something a bit bigger.

i would say with so little information that this is an allergy issue. there is something in her bedroom she is allergic to.

Contact an air quality company to come out and test the air in your home, specifically your daughter's room.

if there is nothing found, then it might be something else in her room. The bed may have allergens. Consider a new mattress.

Carpeting holds A LOT of allergens. If she has carpeting and curtains? Get them cleaned. If you can afford to replace them? Do so with hardwoods. And wood blinds.

Good luck

A number of things could cause this. One is allergies (dust, mold, something in his mattress or pillow, etc.) which can be worse in the winter months with all the dry heat. Full nasal/sinus tissues can cause headaches, and draining nasal passages put that post-nasal drip into the throat and the stomach. You can google how to minimize these things with allergen-proof pillow cases and so on.

Another possibility is acid reflux, that is made worse when he lies down. Those acids can back up into the throat and cause irritation. It's treatable.

The pediatrician may have other ideas but I'm guessing the above 2 items need to be ruled out long before you worry about other causes.

It could be that’s when he slows down enough to feel it... he is busy and having fun, so he ignores it during the day...
