Have you tried talking to his doctor for advice? Sometimes a doctor can give helpful advice for wetting the bed. They may even have a medication to try.
Hello everyone,
My son is 6yrs old and he still pees the bed at night but only at night not when he naps or anyother time. Sometimes I think maybe he sleeps to hard because I have tried to wake him to go to the bathroom and it is so hard. But even when I wake him up to go to the bathroom he still pees even when I stop giving him fluid after 5pm. Any Ideas on what to do about what to do about that? L.C

hey L.,
my son turned 5 this summer and we have the same problem...he just wears pull-ups (those heavy-duty nighttime ones) at night. we talked with the pediatrician about it at his 5-year check-up and the dr said that he didn't normally do anything about it until kids were at least 6. at that point, he said we could try one of those alarm things that go in their underwear and go off when they get wet...but he said 6 is even too early for some kids. google "enuresis alarm" to find out what i'm talking about. besides that, though, you could probably still wait a while if he's comfortable and doesn't seem worried about it...the dr. said the kid has to be motivated to learn to wake up or else it doesn't work anyway. hope this helps! i'd talk to your pediatrician if you're really worried.

Hi L.,
First of all, he is not the only one. Kids at that age are going through a lot of change. Both physically and emotionally. It could be stress, or insecurities, or he's just tired. He's playing all day at school and his brain is taking a lot in too. That's pretty exhausting.
I've heard of some products they make. They have one that connects to the childs clothing and when it scenses wettness, it vibrates so they wake up. The other is a mat that goes underneath and has an alarm that sounds when it scenses wetness. I heard the mat one isn't as effective because it doens't wake them up until after the fact. The other one gets one drip and it vibrates. The way it works is it connects the brain to waking up when the body is peeing. They think that for some poeple they are so sound asleep that the brain isn't aware it needs to wake up to go to the bathroom. I'm not sure of the name of the product but, it may be worth a shot.
Just remember you guys aren't alone in this and it won't happen forever. Good luck with it all.
Hello L.,
Have you talked to your Family about that ?
my nephew used to have this problem and the Family doc give him some medicine and he stopped after that .
i know my sister tried all what you have tried with you son .
but it never worked until she talked to her Doc . they did lots of tests just to make sure there is no bigger problem , and then they put him in the medicine i think for few months and then he was ok.
he is 15 years old now thank GOD with no problems .
good luck.
Well my son had problems wetting the bed very late... Id say until he was 7 years old. It didnt happen all the time, but just every once in a while. The most important thing you can do is make sure you let him know its not his fault. I know it can be frustrating stripping beds and washing sheets all the time, but these kids are embarassed already and need to not be made to feel shame over what they cant control.
It sounds like youre doing everything right (stopping fluids, waking him up to pee..) All I can tell you is he will grow out of it!
Good Luck to you both!
Make sure he drinks plenty of fluids begining early in the day, then stop them 3 hours before bedtime. Make sure he drinks filtered water, and takes showers instead of baths. Make sure he goes pee before he goes to bed.
Kids tend to hit a stage where their growth surpasses their kidney growth and they have accidents, especially at night. I did later than most. Just be patient and be sure to put down a plastic sheet below his sheet and have extra jammies and sheets ready to go. My kids outgrew it, as did I as a child. Be patient nature will catch up soon! Good luck!
This may seem strange but I've read that unexplained bedwetting especially in older kids can be related to dairy allergy. You could try cutting out dairy for a couple weeks just to see if it makes a difference, or ask your Dr. about it. Good luck!
