What Are the Top Causes of an Upset Stomach Besides the Flu?

The past week my 8year old has had waves of stomach ache/pain, mild nausea and doesn't feel good. No vomiting, diarrhea or temp. Not effecting his appetite. Has had regular BMs every day (i always ask). He does have more gas then usual. It doesn't seem like it's any food, beverage(lactose) or digestive issues. Could be a virus but with no temp, no diarrhea and a good appetite I feel that's not it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I didn't take him to the doctor, doctors around Eldora Ia just blame a bug and dismisses you. I do think it was anxiety. I honestly didn't think he would just all of a sudden get anxiety out of the blue. He is doing loads better, not 100% but just about. Thank you everybody!

Please go see a doctor. It could be any number of things including appendicitis. This isn't something you want to wait on.

Could be fall allergies and he is swallowing a lot of mucous. Could be viral. A stomach bug is going around here without fever. Could be back to school nerves.

Practically anything!
Could be anxiety from school starting up.
I'm sure lots of kids are 'just sick' over summer vacation almost being finished.

Anxiety and stress.
Emotional and mental health care are just as important as physical health care. Talk to him about school/church/friends and try to figure out if he is stressed about anything, even if it seems trivial.

The heat can cause you to feel like that I feel like that when it gets really hot but sometimes its something else you should have him drank some hot tea it does not matter what flavor as long as it Green tea in it and he can have hot chocolate but teas better and eat bowl of cream of chicken or broth it helps a lot but as for what could be the cause there are so many reasons, he could have eaten something that was on the verge of going bad. I hope he feels better soon.

My dd is allergic to eggs, if she happens to eat something with eggs in it (without knowing it) she gets nauseated and has a stomach ache for hours and will occasionally throw up. There are eggs in some brands of ice cream and many baked goods. I don't know if your kid has allergies, and it might not be eggs, but I think this is a common reaction to some food allergies.

Allergies, sinus infections, etc. can cause post-nasal drip with wreak havoc on the digestive system. Sinus infections don't always cause a fever.

There can still be intestinal issues even if he has regular BMs.

since i'm not a doctor, i don't really know.
there are lots of bugs that aren't the flu.
there's anxiety.
there's allergies.
i'd put him on the BRAT diet, and take him to the doctor if that didn't do the trick.

Mild nausea is my major symptom of acid reflux. People most often associate it with heartburn, but it can also present as mild nausea that doesn't resolve.

I've had a mild stomach virus that is exactly like this. Quite a few times actually. My kids have also had it the same time as me. So yes, it could be a virus. At the time I was thankful it was not a full on bad stomach virus with tons of puking. It would be many different things though...stress, gas, something he ate, a food sensitivity. It's hard to say. People say go to the doctor but I never end up having the doctor be very helpful with something mild like this that could be caused by so many different things. Maybe you will have better luck though.

Stress/anxiety can cause those symptoms. It's common with kids at this time of year. He'll need to see a doctor to rule out physical illness though.

I'd take him in.

Before you do, check (actually look at) his BMs. Even if he's having them daily, doctor will want to know if they are loose, etc.

If loose - could be nerves, stress, anxiety ...
Intolerance ..

But I'd go in. Just have that information ready when you do.

It actually sounds like strep. You don't have to have a fever to strep - my kids had strep many times without a fever. AND sometimes, their only symptoms were nausea and not feeling well. Ask the doctor to do a strep test.
